I was wondering if anybody could suggest a good book about Bass. Not so much fishing Bass but learning about Bass. How the react, why they react ect..... I want to learn as much as I can about them to make me a better fisherman. Plus it gives me something to do on the days I can't be on the water. I know there is about everything I can want to learn on the internet but sometimes I just want a good book. There are 1000's of books but was hoping someone could suggest one or more that they have read? Thanks!!!

Is there a lot of difference between the books on Large and Smallmouth Bass? Is it worth it to get both?

In-Fisherman "Largemouth Bass" and "Smallmouth Bass"

Which one are those, are they the Largemouth Bass Secrets and Smallmouth Bass Secrets.

Yes, the books are different because the bass are different.....Both are great reads and as applicable today as when they were written....Some years ago I read a section of the largemouth book where it described how to fish a reed line that had an inside edge. I went to the lake ,got my self quietly situated on the inside edge of a large reed area. I found a small point with a little pocket on the end of reeds right next to it as was recommended in the book. Glass smooth water surface , I cast a # 11 floating Rapala and hit in that pocket perfectly. I waited til the rings all dissipated and lightly twitched the Rapala. KERSPLOOSH!, Reeled in a 5lber on that very first cast....Got calmed down and threw another cast in the same place, let it sit same as last cast, then twitched it , Splash, another hookup, a 4 lber....Continued catching fish for awhile around these reeds til the sun shined brightly killing the bite.......Now , you know I loved that book, still have to this day.

There are quite a few differences between the largemouth and smallmouth, definitely worth buying both if you fish both.

There isn't any one definitive textbook. There are lots of books out there, of varying quality, all of which offer some  insights into fishing.  Some that might strike me as exceedingly elementary for me right now, might be full of insights for you, depending on where you're at in the bass fishing learning curve.

So, have at it and start reading.

You probably want some reading suggestions so here are some.  Nightcrawler secrets (I think that is still available through Fishing Facts magazine)

Buck Perry's books on spoon plugging and structure fishing,  any of the In-fisherman Fishing Secrets handbooks.  Charlie Brewer's book, On Slider Fishing, Roland Martin's first book - 101 Bass Fishing Secrets  (Be aware that he doesn't always make sense and even back then, he was always selling something)

If you can get your hands on any old In-fisherman magazines, from back when the Lindners owned it,  every magazine was a fountain of information.

Be aware that their information was presented in a multi-species format, but most of that stuff translates into bass fishing.

That's enough to get you started.

Forgive me... Doug Hannon wrote a book in the 80's as trophy sized Florida Largemouth bass fishing expert... A lot of science... A lot of exacting

Details on the Florida Bass... I however do not recall the title... He has caught hundreds of fish over 10 a few approaching 16.... It taught me exactly how to fish for big Florida bass.. I lived there 10 years... I go there even now and apply what I learned from him! There are many great reads I am sure as there are many great even legendary Bass fisherman! But he stands out ... To me!

I agree with the above. Doug's book "Bass Magic" is a great one as well as his "Field Guide" book. Incredibly informative. I always learned a tremendous amount from his video's as well.

Hard to believe it's been a year since he passed away.

Anything "In-Fisherman" published since their *** (1975), is money well spent

Throw on top of that: "Secrets of A Champion" by Kevin VanDam

I would however, steer clear of regionally oriented books (nuff said:wink7:
