I'd like to get more organized this year.  I'm planning on buying a new, smaller tackle bag and some extra Plano boxes of whatever size my new bag holds.  I'd outfit the bag with pliers, scale, sun-screen etc. and take the same bag every day. My plan would be to decide what I'm going to fish with on any given day and then load up the boxes with only those lures.  Maybe keep 2 boxes loaded with top-water stuff, 2 with mid-water stuff and 2 with bottom-dragging stuff.  Then I could reload these boxes as needed and bring only them instead of a suitcase full of every lure I think I "might need".  My question is, does anyone have a cabinet, storage shelf/drawer system at the house that they organize all of their lures into so that they can just pull out whatever they want without having to dig through boxes and shopping bags.  Thank in advance for any ideas.

My back up plastics and hardbaits are in cardboard labeled boxes on shelves this is my last resort storage. My next storage is in those large green spinnerbaits worm boxes. I think I have 12 of the large spinnebait and worm boxes. After this my 17 or so tackle boxes store the rest plus one magnum boat bag. All this is on shelves. I also have the 3700 plastic cases for storing my hooks of all kinds, my c rig stuff(beads, brass weights, swivels) another 3700 for lead and steel bullet weights.

I mainly fish with up to five tackle boxes from shore.

Topwater #9606 large barn roof box stuffed with every brand and color topwater lure.

Crankbait #9606 large barn roof box stuffed with most crankbaits. Medium sized

Crankbait 9606 large barn roof with larger crankbaits, Minnowbaits.

Weedless box with every weedless lure known to man.

Plastics box with senko, worms, swimbaits.

Besides this I have a quick fish box with a little bit of everything.

My magnum boat bag is stuffed with the 3700 cases full of everything my tackle boxes have.

Trust me we never have enough storage. I have a tackle room stuffed with more fishing equipment than mom and pop bait shops.

I admit I have a problem my name is Bill and I'm a tackle hoarder. I'm also a color freak too. I change lure colors till one works. You can't read the water conditions from shore exactly. When nothing else works the buzz word is chartreuse or firetiger.

I need the number 18 tackle box soon for the swimbaits I started buying up.

I purchase backup stuff to the point my backup has backup.

When my smaller tackle boxes over flowed I purchased the largest split roof 9606 tackle boxes. Now there stuffed.

Do I use everything? Yes on each trip I throw a wide assortment of lures. Sometimes it's throwing a lure I haven't used in a while. Those larger deeper running shad raps really do work.

The infisherman used them for decades. Example.

Right now I carry every bomber fat A, model A, shallow A in every size and color, I carry every color of Norman fatboys and thin n's. A variety of different colors and sizes of shad raps, glass raps, original rapala.

Due to my health my shortened fishing time I can't throw everything like I once did. I love throwing lures just making my presentations Oscar winning perfect. Then the bass interupt me, that's how I know I got it right.

I converted an older TV cart by putting doors on the front and added a shelf system to hold the 3700 sized boxes. There's space in the middle that I can keep some smaller boxes.  I keep all my hard baits in tackle trays and organize them based on style of bait (example top water, jerk bait, square bill, medium diving crankbaits., etc., etc.) and have a few for my "go to" soft plastics. The rest of my plastics are stored in the original packaging in zip lock bags separated by style so I can easily find what I need.  When summer comes, most of my boxes get moved to the boat but the baits I know I won't need will stay there. When I go fishing with someone else, I grab my trays and put them in my tackle bag. It holds 5 or so 3700 boxes as well as some smaller ones so I can carry what I need. I have two extra 3700 size boxes to use as day boxes. When I go to a lake I have a pretty good idea of current water conditions as well as what I'll need to take with so I can pull baits from multiple categories to aid in thinning everything down to fit in my tackle bag.

If you want to organize fishing stuff in your garage, step A would probably be to build a bigger garage.  My fishing shed is roughly 30 by 40 and if I had the funds to do it again I'd built 90 by 150.

Every time you are in Walmart and you see the plastic shoe boxes on sale for $$1.50 or less, get some.  Every time you see shelving on sale - get some.  Every time you see totes on sale - get some.  Keep going until you have more than enough, trust me, sooner or later you will fill them all up.  Invest in a roll of duct tape and a sharpie and keep it handy in your shop.  Be sure and label everything.  If you change what you put in the box - change the label.  Don't ask why I know that this is extremely important.

Invest in a roll or two of cheap plastic wrap.  There are some things that you don't use very often that don't fit in totes well. ( Like spare trolling motors, to use one example)  Wrapping them in plastic wrap will keep dust off of them and preserve them better.  Once they are wrapped, be sure and label them, don't count on your memory to remember everything you've wrapped.

Every so often, at Walmart, cheap lawn furniture goes on sale.  Folding tables make great temporary work surfaces for larger sorting projects, among other things.  5 gallon buckets are cheap at home depot & Lowes.  Buy the lid and they make great waterproof storage containers.  Remove the lid, invert the bucket and they become a seat, which will support all but the greatest lard ***** among us.  You can't have too many 5 gallon buckets with lids.

Invest in rat/mouse poison and be liberal in how you spread it around your shop.  Don't invest in mouse traps unless you like removing dead mice from said traps.  Get a few of the XL size glue traps.  You will be surprised in that might walk into that glue trap.

Invest in decent locks.  Have adequate insurance.  I'm sure that there are lots more tips on how to organize your shop, but these will do for now.

My man cave is a small storage room in the garage.I have rod racks on one wall; two tier shelving

on the floor to about 3' and then pegboard on two walls.  All my "reserves" are visible and easily

accessable. In a Plano 3600 I have 4 Plano boxes and side compartments filled with everything I

"might" need organized by categorey (soft plastics, hard baits, jigs, etc.). In a smaller Plano soft

bag I keep all the stuff I plan to use on a given day. What might strike you as odd is that I rarely

access anything in this bag. My rods are rigged and ready!

My garage is just a mess. I know where most of the stuff is, but I bet there's some great stuff in the missing file! I keep thinking I should get some of those plastic bins and sort stuff out, but it would cost hundreds just in plastic storage bins, and I can't bring myself to do it.

I'm fortunate enough to have a man cave in my house. At a time though, it was kept on gorilla rack shelving and rod racks in a garage. Now its pegboards/shelving/rod racks indoors where I can touch it all the time time =)

My stuff gets all piled up in the garage. Then I cuss like a psychotic electrician when I have to find a specific item.
