ventureone Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 What are the best techniques to use from shore? I will be without a boat for most of the Spring and Summer but still would like to try something besides topwaters and worm-under-a-bobber. Most of our local impoundments have great shore access with abundant rip-rap. I have used some t-rig presentations in the past, but not much else. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 its hard to beat a weightless soft plastic of ur choice. of course its not as exciting as other baits. but that's my go to when all else fails (and actually i start with it often b/c it's so stealth you catch those big girls off guard). http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/ 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 9, 2014 Super User Posted April 9, 2014 Hello and Welcome to BR ~ A weightless or lightly weighted Fluke is a good bait. Try a square bill crank bait. That's a bait that is right at home bumping along all that Rip Rap. Good Luck A-Jay Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted April 9, 2014 Super User Posted April 9, 2014 Stock up on some Senkos (4" & 5"). Wacky rig them and probe every inch of the water you have access to. This is probably your best option being land locked. Other presentations will work of course. Depends on how badly you "need" to catch something. 2 Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Square bills would be great in the rip rap, but you'll do better throwing them as parallel to shore as possible, keeping them running along said rip rap. Weightless senkos and flukes, as suggested. I would also recommend tossing some spinnerbaits or shad raps. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 9, 2014 Super User Posted April 9, 2014 My top 5 1 - Weightless Senko. Wacky around sparse cover. T-rigged around anything else. 2 - Mojo Rig - My favorite actually. I use a trick worm primarily. 3 - Spinnerbait - Easiest power fishing tool to use from the bank. Works well in various conditions. 4 - KVD 1.0 - Around rocky banks or sparse cover again. 5 - Jig - Finesse up to 1/2oz Quote
dday07 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Guessing if you have a lot of rip rap the water is pretty clear? if so...i prefer to finesse fish 1.Ragetail Menace T-rigged 2. Wacky Senko 3.Ragetail Lizard C-rigged 4.Fat Ika 5.Topwater with Spook-but you mentioned that Quote
CABassin Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 It's not a common recommendation around here, but I've had my best luck fishing a weightless, t-rigged 4.5" roboworm on a 1/0 wide gap hook with spinning gear and 6lb floro line. I've gotten skunked many times on senko's, but I can usually count on 4.5" roboworms saving the day. Quote
jeff25 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I have most of my luck on soft plastics(mainly senkos), holly belly swimbaits, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits Quote
Arv Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Crank baits, weightless plastics (senkos are a great option), t rig plastics, jigs, and lip less cranks are some of my favorite Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Small ponds are all I fish. My best producer is a 4" Senko either wacky or texas. Watermellon magic and green pumpkin. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I use just about everything from shore. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 To me from shore a 1/8oz Carolina rig rocks with plastics. I don't throw that much large stuff. Smaller 1/8 & 1/4oz spinnerbaits. Average 2" cranks. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 These work for me Kinami Palm Tree Rapala Ripnrap Senko Spro frog Jig w/rage tale craw Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 If you are looking for just one bait, go with a senko style bait. I'd recommend a Yum Dinger. Quote
Hogsticker Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Take a half ounce lipless crank and zing it out as far as you can. Experiment with your retrieve. Fan cast the area about 30 timed. Move down the shore about 20 yards and repeat. Once you've caught a few fish from the same area you can adjust your bait selection. Quote
DevilsAdidas Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I use just about everything from shore. Agreed. If the fish like it from a boat they will like it from the shore. Just don't dive to deep... Quote
tholmes Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 These work for me Kinami Palm Tree Rapala Ripnrap Senko Spro frog Jig w/rage tale craw HEY!! Stay outta my tackle box! I fish from shore exclusively these days and in a small lake with lots of rip-rap banks. I use all of the baits in Quake N Shake's picture plus squarebills, T-rigged ribbontail worms, pretty much everything except drop shot rigs. Tmo Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 11, 2014 Super User Posted April 11, 2014 Shore fishing is no different than fishing from a boat only backwards. We're limited to the shoreline but let's not tell everyone that's where the bass are anyway. You need to know the structure and depths. That's where the portable cast out fish finder comes in handy. I prefer shore fishing since I have so many different hot spots that are close together. I can gun and run without moving the boat. Within a few minutes I'm fishing again. Quote
