Missourifishin Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I'm trying to spool up one of my spinning reels with new line, and most of the line is going onto the lower part of the spool. So, by the time the top of the spool is covered with line, the bottom is starting to overflow. wth? Quote

The funny thing, that I should have mentioned in my OP, is that I put 4 lb fluoro on the spare spool last night with no problem. And now I'm tying to put 8 lb mono (which is what was on it previously) on the main spool and it's not working. Quote
Cgrinder Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Check under the spool for a washer. If there's more than one, remove one washer and try spooling again. Quote

Missourifishin Posted April 9, 2014 Author Posted April 9, 2014 Well, I was able to spool it up. And, though less extreme, it is still noticeably uneven. And I think it might cause me problems when I try to fish with it. I may have to have it serviced. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Yes, the spacers on the spool shaft are the adjustment for that. Other causes can be splice knots that cause a bump or a twist that got missed and covered over. If you're down to one spacer and still having a problem you need a thinner one. The one you took off is likely thinner than the first one. You may want to try swapping them. If your still having problems send it in if you want and I'll take a look. Quote

That's correct, and swapping them seems to have solved the problem! Apparently at one point last night I misplaced and/or mismatched the spacers. It was just a matter of removing one and leaving the correct one on. Thanks to everyone who responded! Quote
