I have seen several topics in these forums about how the 6.5 -7ft medium-heavy, fast action rod paired with a low profile reel is the closest thing to an "all around" setup in the baitcasting category. It should reasonably cover most applications with the exception of maybe lures with treble hooks. My question to you all is, what would be the closest thing to an "all around" LINE to go with this setup?

I am intentionally vague on the details because I am looking to cover the widest range of scenarios possible.

Thank you in advance, and have fun debating!

I would use 40 pound braid as mainline and add a leader as needed. Think that is the best all around you can get right there.

You match your line according to the quality/quantity of the cover you're fishing.   Heavier cover necessitates a more abrasion resistant line - not necessarily a higher lb test.  To try to go with a one size fits all line is to unnecessarily handicap yourself.  Don't do that, fishing is hard enough.

Line issues are one of the few fishing problems that you can solve by throwing money at it.

If you are looking for just one brand as your all-round line, Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 is the ticket.

This. YZ hybrid is really good line. You should also try their 6 and 8lb test. Good stuff.
