I want to get a setup for fishing plastics and jigs.  I have narrowed it down to a few options and I wanted to get some input on what I have listed.  Thanks for the help and input.

Reel (left hand retrieve around 7.1 ratio)

Daiwa Tatula 100: $150

Lews Tournament MG: $130

Shimano Curado: $180

Rods - around 7' MH

*** Black: $100

Fenwick HMX: $80

Kistler Pro Series: $120

I am also open to other suggestions in the price range if I am leaving something out that should be considered.  Thanks again.

I, personally, would take the lews tournmant speed spool or tournament pro over the MG.

And for the rod I would say a Veritas or St Croix Premier.

You have a large price range listed so there are ALOT of options. I, personally, use 1/8th-3/8oz for plastics and 1/2 - 3/4oz jigs so those aren't things that I combine on the same rod.

You need to look at the lure ratings and find one that matches the weights you use for plastics and what size jigs you use.

I'd put more money into the rod it will be dedicated to worms and jigs. It looks like you're willing to spend around $300. My recommendation would be a rod in the 150-200 range and a reel in the 100-150 range. You could shop around and probably find a Lews Tournament Speed Spool for around 100-110 and fish ranger has the Powell Endurance for 150. That would be a very affordable combo that would serve you very well for the planned presentations you stated.

Check out Denali rods. The Jadewoods and Kovert series are in your price range and you get alot of rod for the price points.

I agree with spending more for the rod. Fishing jigs and plastics is all about sensitivity and feel. That comes from the rod.

If you have the money

St. Croix Avid as mentioned before in a medium heavy/fast will cover what you're looking for nicely. Sensitive, durable great quality rod. Cost 190 retail but comes with a limited life time warranty. As long as you don't step on it or go ike with it. Your covered. Pair it up with the 7.0:1 curado I and I'm pretty jealous.

With the options you gave:

Not so sure about the other two, don't have any experience with any but I have been hearing nothing but good things about the 13 omens and envys. Very sensitive rods from what i hear. I've seen people here compare them to higher end st. Croix and dobyns rods. Stick with any medium heavy/fast action in the 7ft range. Pair that up with the same curado and you have yourself a nice 250-280 dollar setup. Enough to make me envious. Get it? 13 ***...envious? I'm so sorry, it's late and I need to sleep before I get banned for being stupid. Good luck with your purchase. Hope it works out.
