Made a trip up to the mother-in-laws cabin on KY lake this weekend and was able to get the kayaks out for the first time for a couple hours.  Caught this one after about an hour of scouting out a little cove off the main channel.  I added a fishfinder to the kayak to help with depth and looking for cover.  Hope this is a sign of things to come.  Ticked my son off to no end :cry4: .

Thats cool, I really want to get some outriggers on my canoe and do this myself on some bigger water like pickwick or KY lake.

Do you stay in the back coves to avoid the main lake waves, or is it sturdy enough to venture out a bit?

Got to try this out!!

We stay mostly in and around the coves but I've ventured out into the main channel a few times. It's not terrible and the boat's plenty sturdy, just more of a workout, especially if it's windy. I can go far enough out to hit the ledges going into the channel. Drop an anchor down and you're gtg.

Smaller lakes like Herb Parsons and Big Hill Pond are perfect. You can get around the entire lake and don't have to fight the waves or the boat traffic you see on the bigger lakes.

Wow you're braver than I am!  No way I would go out on the main river in a Kayak.  Nice fish BTW.

Thanks.  I'll have to admit it's a little scary paddling thru traffic.  Not to mention the wake from some of the boats will beat you to death.

I have a wilderness systems ride 135. Its stable enough that I don't have to worry about wake from the bass boats. A 25 mph wind is far worse than being on a lake with a ton of bass boats. I actually have more trouble being waked on smaller bodies of water with horsepower restrictions. Bass boats actually don't throw a ton of wake when they are up on a plane. I actually get slammed with wake more in the no wake zones, because the boats are down in the water more. Therefore, displacing more water. You do have to worry about idiots that are not paying attention while driving. Just have your head on a swivel. And make sure u are plenty visable. My kayak is bright orange, and has a pole on the back with a flag and mirrors. Some people even fish these boats in the ocean.
