Jonas Staggs Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 So we're finally going to have some rain here in socal in my area. I read some bassresource articles about it already. What I am taking away from it is that fishing in a light to moderate rain can actually be better. Obviously a very heavy rain, thunder, lightning, heavy winds and the bass seek cover. I generally fish small creeks for small fish but am thinking this rain might be a good opportunity at a big or bigger bass at a local lake I know that is a tuff bite but does hold big ones. Is my thinking correct? Any tips advice or suggestions anyone would like to share? The weather expected is rain/showers with air temps 40-55 and wind from 1-4 mph. Also, how do you figure out what the water temperature is? Is there a general rule of thumb you can use based off what the air temperature is? Don't need to be exact but a way to get a rough idea would be nice. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 I mean six years later, rain is often a good time to be on the water, unless there's lightning. 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 I love fishing during a rain shower in the Spring and Summer. Seems to be great for topwater bites. ****What in the world. Someone is messing with me LOL Quote

This is why I try to target days with inclement weather in the forecast. Less people plus the fishing is often better too. Not in a thunderstorm or gale force winds though. 1 Quote
Michigander Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 People are often surprised to hear that fish bite in the rain. I tell them that the fish don't care, they're already wet. LoL 2 Quote

MGF Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 To each their own. I can't see without my glasses and my glasses didn't come with windshield wipers. Fish bite in the rain and I've done my share of fishing in the rain but they also bite when it isn't raining. LOL I remember going on fishing vacations to northern Wisconsin when I was a kid. More often then not we'd get two weeks of solid rain...and it wasn't warm rain. We fished because that was vacation and there wasn't going to be another one. If I have a choice I fish in NICE weather. 1 Quote

LOL that might be a bit extreme. But when I see a steady rain in the forecast between June - August that sends off a light in my head that says "get out there" every time. 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 A light rain, the first two lures I reach for are a buzzbait and spinnerbait . 5 Quote

Super User Catt Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 I don't mind fishing in the rain, I just hate leaving the house when it's raining. January, February, & March our lakes are in pre-spawn/spawn, which happens to coincide with our wettest & coldest weather. So yeah I fish in the rain ? 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 I've fished in the rain before too. A light rain won't bother me, and it can get some fish biting good also 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 It was a slight drizzle this morning. Granted, it’s January, not spring or summer. But it was 59° when I got up. Took the boat out. Fished from 7:30 to 3:00. Not. One. Darned. Bite. Not one. I threw everything but the kitchen sink. Topwater, spinnerbaits, jigs, lipless cranks, worms, swimbaits, Ned rig and I’m probably forgetting something. Still had a good day being out, but man. That’s tough! ? 2 1 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted January 22, 2021 Super User Posted January 22, 2021 My boat is a kayak. Wind is what sends me scurrying for home. I can deal with rain. Being on a kayak, regular rain gear is sufficient. 1 Quote
