Left Over Line

Every time I respool I seem to always have fairly good amounts of line left on the spool. What do yall do with yours that's left over? I join mine with another line and put it on a reel.

I get at least 3 reels worth of line off a 300yd spool. Usually 4. But when there is a little bit left and not enough to do another reel I just throw it in my scrap line bin. It gets used for tying up things around the house, fixing minnow and cast nets, and backing for new reels.

i use mine for leader material most of the time, or tie it to a spinnerbait skirt and annoy my cat for a while.

I've used it for backing under braid and also for leader material on my dropshot and C-rigs.  I occasionally will use braid for dropshotting and will use a small barrel swivel to attach the drop line.  It's easier on my eyes than using a knot and it keeps line twist to a minimum.

I back all my reels with a cheap mono like big game and then put just enough good line on. Usually about 60-70 yards worth of top shot. So I rarely have anything left over. If I do then it becomes leader line.

First of all what a great problem to have right? Nothing worse than re spooling and knowing ur a little short when done. I keep all my line stored indoors in a zip lock so that's where I keep the bits and usually use them for kid projects. We did an underwater sea life diorama last year and ended up using spare line to hang sharks, sting rays etc. It turned out great.

I use 65 yards of top shot so in a 200 yard spool I rarely have much left if any.

Best investment I made for spooling is a clip-on line counter. I know exactly how much backing, and line, that I'm putting on; so I can be pretty exact. I like to get 4 fills out of a 300yd spool. I don't intend to cast over 50-60 yards, so 70+ is plenty. I typically have very little wasted line on a spool.

Believe I picked it up at Cabelas. It was a fairly cheap Berkley one. Doesn't work well under 8lb diameter if you use thin braids, otherwise it's good for me.
