Suspend Dots/strips

Went and got some Jerk baits today because the ice is bound to melt sooner or later here and I wanted to be ready. They are both floating Jerk baits so I was just wondering how you guys/girls like the suspend dots. Do they work? Can I use them on Jerk baits and crank baits? Any input would be great!

I have had some suspendots for a while and just used them last month while trout fishing. I put one underneath the lip of a little suspending jerkbait to get it to sink. It did sink and didn't seem to impede the action of the lure. It actually increased the side to side distance when being jerked so they get a thumbs up from me. I have never tried them on a floating lure though.

They are a must have to adjust suspending lures. You need quite a few to make a floating lure sink or suspend though. But I prefer them over putting on bigger hooks and extra split rings.

I've been using them for years, but I never attempted to make a suspending bait out of a floater.  I mainly use them to obtain a nose down attitude on my jerkbaits and to adjust the rate that my cranks float up.  I don't see why they wouldn't work, though it make take a few of the strips.

Great for fine tuning - for a more drastic change I use lead wire or a little lead cylinder sinker with a wire eye hooked into the split ring - for finer tuning - split rings and/or hook size.

I just finished up making a floater suspend. Enough suspend strips will make anything suspend or sink. Its true that with a floating bait you might need quite a few strips/dots, and you also need to make sure you put them in the right spot for the bait you're tuning. I just did a 110 silent riser, when i tossed it into 50ish degree water, the bait floated quickly, tail down. The way it floats out of the package is strange to say the least. I wanted it to suspend, so i molded a number of strips on both sides of the bill and some of the body. Added a lucky craft style split ring since it did not come with one stock.  Now this bait suspends horizontal. I will say it not silent. The 2 tungsten balls are stationary, one in the front, one in the back on this bait. Those balls move a bit, and its a very faint one knocker sound.  Here is a couple pics to show how I added the strips of zinc. Smoothed the edges with a knife after I tested in the tank.  

 

 

Here it is next to a FX I have tuned as well. The bill on this floater definitely thicker.
