Ive got an opporunity to possibly buy either one.

The Lews is 100

The Quantum is 135

Which is the better deal as far as quality?

Which one would be lighter, im looking for a light reel

Posted

The Lews Mg is 7.9oz and the Energy is 6.9oz. I'm a Quantum guy so I'd personally go for the new Energy Pt.

Its an old model the e760 so its actually the 9.5oz model so i may go for the lews

This one?

If so, I have 5 of them and have fished them for the last 6 yrs. Great reels. Very well built. Heavy, but quality.

agree with stingray, if it is higher end, quantum shines, love my old energies, tour pts and smoke, going on 3rd year of tough bank fishing

I would go with the Lews, it doesn't matter what brand it is anymore but anything that goes over 7.5oz feels like a brick anymore.

Is it new in box? 130 is hefty if not. But the are workhorses. Used I see them depending on condition in the 60-80 for good. You can get the energy PT VI new in box for around 100 very light, great reel I love mine.

They are pretty popular, because they are built well, but look around on ebay on the forum flea markets. For good condition $100 max. Like I said you can buy the next version up(basically like a silver smoke with rainbow bits) not the newest, that is lighter and smaller to palm. I like both those versions of the energy my buddy has had his 760 for 6 yrs and I used it and I have had mine for about 6 mo. and it has been great.

I hear good things about lews a few buddies use them, but can't speak for that model and compare them to the energys.

can you send me a link of the pt version that youre talking about?

Looks like this it is the energy pt vi e100hptpost-36707-0-74701800-1396554720_thumb.j

I fished the energy pt vi for like 5 years without cleaning or relubing and it just gave out on me last year. Really wish I would have taken care of it... I was 15 when I got it and didn't know anything about cleaning or relubing them.

It was definitely my favorite reel... Until I bought a lews tourney pro

I totally agree with MCS the 130 price is almost double what i would pay for it, not because it is a bad reel, but because it is a few models old, and should be bought for less than 50% its retail price... for 130 you can get the current model energy PT which is a phenomenal reel...

You can find these all day on the forums and eBay for around $70-$80. As was mentioned, these are sought after by people in the know. And like I said, they are very well made reels. Solid ass reels. I will never get rid of mine. I just cleaned and re-lubed all of mine a few months ago and they are better then new.

This is the reel that came right after the one above it. I have never used it before but I have the same generation Catalyst PT and Tour Edition PT and they are great reels as well. Smaller, lighter, and very smooth. Another solid reel. I wouldnt hesitate to purchase one. They can be had on eBay right now for under $100 new.

This is the latest Energy Pt. I have never used one or even held one, but its light at 6.9oz and if its anything like a Smoke or EXO, then its pretty much a great reel. These can be had on eBay for $120 new.

Personally, I like a little weight to a reel. I'm not into the latest fad of having the lightest reel out.

thanks guys i went with the Lews reel and might i say, right choice. I paired it with my 7'3 MF *** and not only does it look awesome (black on black) but the low profile feels amazing with the rod, I use it for lightweight softplastics, It came spooled with some red label floro so i  was able to fish with floro for the first time and its pretty good. It did feel a little stiffer and therefore a little more sensitive IMO anyway lol overall it is probably my fave combo I have right now
