MidFlaBassMan Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I was given these two reels and told to research and make a fair offer. One I have narrowed down to a mid 70's model 5500c and the other ( the 6500c3) seems to be a more recent model maybe mid 90's. I am trying to find out their worth, what type of fishing they are good for and their age. I can post pics later this afternoon of serial numbers and the reel if it helps. Anyone have any input? Thanks, Ryan Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Those reels are tanks and perfectly fishable if cared for at all. Probably a little overkill for bass fishing but would make good swimbait, muskie or salt water reels. If you decide to pull the trigger and want them checked out mechanically you can save a step and some $ by shipping them here and forward to you after. Quote
MidFlaBassMan Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 OK thanks for the advise and offer. If I do decide to keep them I will contact you for info on having them evaluated and or repaired if need be. Quote
georgeyew Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I've seen used C3 model go from $35 to about $60 depending on the condition. So that could serve as your baseline. Quote
frogflogger Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 the 5500c was the classiest bass reel around for a few years - I still throw mine some - good workhorse - the 6500c would work for swimbaits and both are good shiner reels - Quote
TiNuts Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I have bought a handful of very good condition late 80s model 5500cs for around $40, which I consider a steal for how good these reels are. Like said above, I have seen them upwards of $100 for pristine conditioned reels. Quote
