kadas Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Did any one else hear that Rick Clunn with Luck E Strike were getting ready to release a new crankbait line that would be priced more toward the average angler or was I dreaming?--I was sure I read that somewhere! :-/ Quote
bmadd Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I remember seeing that as well but I haven't been able to go back and find it. I remember him saying that it was supposed to be similar to his RC baits, but at a price point the average fishermen is willing to pay. Since he is no longer sponsored by BPS, I wonder if this has anything to do with that. They have the exclusive contract with Lucky Craft to be the only seller of that bait and now that he isn't sponsored with them I wonder if that contract will go away or if it will be renamed. Quote

philsoreel Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I recently saw some Lucky Craft RC's being sold at another online retailer.Man, RC's influence into an affordable line of cranks would make my tackle bag weigh at least 10lbs. heavier Quote
Pantera61 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Clunn's remark was actually quite condescending to the "average" angler. QUOTE: He's designing a square-bill crankbait for Luck-E-Strike that's along the lines of his renowned RC models produced by Lucky Craft. "I have a lot of people tell me they love that (RC) bait, but they can't afford to buy it," he said. "In reality, the Lucky Craft is a tool for serious tournament fishermen. The Luck-E-Strike bait will be marketed for guys who can't justify spending that kind of money, but still want a good bait." Source: http://www.another site.com/news_article.asp?ID=3810 Now, tournament angler or not, one of the reasons I go fishing is to CATCH FISH! If I want to spend $5.00, $15.00 or $150.00 to catch fish, that's my choice. I respect Mr. Clunn for his fishing achievements and have for a very long time. The political stuff from Mr. Clunn and Mr. Blaukat are truly getting on my last nerve. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 Clunn's remark was actually quite condescending to the "average" angler. Yet, the "average angler" posts here all the time that Lucky Crafts are too much. Guess you can't please them all.... I just hope the lure works. It probably will, Luck-E-Strike is usually good stuff. Quote
Shad_Master Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I suspect there are a lot more fishermen willing to spend $5 to catch fish than are willing to spend $15 and even more that would balk at spending $150. Caught a lot of fish in my day with a cane pole using a worm dug out of the garden. I don't see anything condescending in his statement. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I personally can't wait to see what they come up with. I will definitely have a few in my boat. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 31, 2011 Super User Posted January 31, 2011 Clunn did have a crank with Luck-e-strike a few years ago, sold through BPS,nothing special at all. While I respect Clunn for his past acomplisments, things in this day and age with his name on it are not going to be "hot" items. Like it or not, thats the way it is. The LC RC crankbaits sell well because of the Lucky Craft name on them, not Clunns. What gets me, is I would bet anything that a bait/rod/whatever with Mark Zona's name on it would sell better, and all he's known for is beeing a clown. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I bought a Rick Clunn bait a few years ago from BPS. I can't remember the brand (not LC), but it had funny notches and grooves molded into it. It was a stinker. I'm really good at catching dinks ( ), and not even my legion of dinks hit on this one. I hope the lucky strike bait is a better effort than that one. On Edit: It was called the Rick Clunn E.T.I. Orion. Sucked. Quote
Blue Streak Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I never buy a bait because it is endorsed by someone. I buy them because they have a good reputation or I think they will work. Endorsements mean nothing to me. Quote

FishinTN Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I don't know how well the new carnkbait will preform vs. the LC. I'd say a higher amount of credit goes to LC because the quality they put into making it, some of reason for higher cost. The new model being cheaper will probably suffer in quality and quality control from bait to bait, hence the lower price. Clunn's input is worth note in design, but id it can't be repeated from bait to bait it leaves you with the other baits average. Some work well, some don't in same model line. Quote
Crankhead Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 one of the posts said they thought they saw RC's being sold at another store other than BPS. BPS does has the exclusive on all of the RC cranks. But I believe once a RC lure has been sold for a couple of years at BPS...say like the copper perch color...those older colors I've seen being sold at other online stores...like northernbass.com & I think ***.com. The new colors can only be found at BPS. Quote
BassThumb Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I'm curious to hear some reviews on how they compare to the Lucky Craft RC 1.5 baits. Here they are at TW: http://www.***.com/Luck_E_Strike_Rick_Clunn_Square_Bill_Crankbait/descpage-LKESTRC.html#multiview Quote
Vinny Chase Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 This is a picture he posted on Facebook...They look great! I hope they compare to LC at a lower price.. Quote
