May be purchasing a new kayak from Bass Pro Shop (before everyone offers every other suggestion, I have some money at BPS and so that's where I'm buying the kayak).  That in mind, I'm trying to decide between the FS12T and FS128T.  Both sit on top kayaks, but some different options.  I mostly fish smaller reservoirs and like to carry a fair amount of gear (tackle, rods, reels, depth finder, etc.) so i'd prefer a bigger kayak that the FS10 sit in kayak I currently have.  Anyone have any info/opinions to offer?  Any first hand experience or opinions on the pros/cons of these kayaks mentioned would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

fair points.  for the loading/weight and speed i was leaning towards the 12T.  that 128T is a tank with all the trimmings, but i think it may be a little big for me to manage at the moment

I had the older model of the fs12t, it was a good yak fast and tracked well. The problem I had with it was my dislike for Swamp Butt. The new design looks like they solved that problem with the new seat. They also changed the hull, it looks similar to the hull on the sit in version which would make it better for standing. Everybody that I talked to that has a fs128t refers to it as a tank or battleship.

i have an fs10 with the same removable seat, it's great!  that's my problem is i don't want a tank per say, i'd still like to cover some water during the day.

don't get me wrong it tracks extemely well but turning is a chore due to with but the 12 sot would probably be better for what you want

I agree with what others have said! I would go for the fs12t. It's a bit lighter in wieght but would better suit your needs.

my experience with ascend SOT kayaks: great seats, very stable, very heavy, and like paddling a barge. They are good quality yaks but i just prefer a faster kayak for the longer runs.Got caught out in 15mph winds and that was enough to make me sell it.

I was in your dilemma just a couple of hours ago, at my local BPS.  Staring at the 12T & 128T trying to decide which one to buy.  I went with the 128T in the end because for the added $150, it has a bigger deck, storage hatch, and comes with an anchor trolley installed.   When you add those few accessories to the 12T to match the 128T, you're within $100 or so, which isn't much more than a tank of gas for anyone who owns a P/U.  Additionally, the 360 swiveling seat on the 128T looked to be better quality than the 12T's.

I did, however, lean towards the 12T because of the shape of the rear storage compartment, but the 128T's overall package tipped the scales for me.

Besides, if you're a First Responder, Cop, or Military, they'll comp you the 10% discount, which helped me rationalize the 128T a little more easily.

That being said, I pick my 128T tomorrow after my daughter's swim meet.  All I need is some warmer weather and a day off.....

Best of luck choosing your 'yak!

Buzzed, shoot me a PM. I can give you some in depth info on each. I have a lot of seat time in both yaks, perks of the job.
