laus Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Lost a sweet 5#er last fall when my line broke at the knot. i tied it VERY carefully, made it pretty (San Diego Jam, cushioning good for FC I read). I know FC has this problem, but as I like the stuff I want to cut my losses as best I can. Any suggestions? Quote
laus Posted February 20, 2011 Author Posted February 20, 2011 Thanks but that's what I was using. I guess I could bite a lemon to get more (maybe that IS the problem)> Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted February 20, 2011 Super User Posted February 20, 2011 Keep a penny under your tounge and you will have all the spit you would ever need. Quote
WanderLust Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 As a frequent heartburn suffer... A stick of gum generates all the spit you need. You don't know where that penny has been... Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 20, 2011 Super User Posted February 20, 2011 Best thing to do is toss the FC into the garbage or buy a new spool. Perhaps try a better knot. Quote

You're tieing the knot wrong........a 5# fish should not break any knot. I only use FC leaders in the ocean, my knots hold much larger fish and I use a simple clinch knot. Quote

I suggest using retying often if your bait/knot has been out of the water for a long time. FC has a habit of becoming brittle. Quote

BassThumb Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Drink some water. You'll have all the spit you need. Veggie oil on the boat would be a mess and you'll end up with slippery rods and reels. Quote
MFBAB Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Why not just tie a Clinch opr Trilene knot? This will probably solve your problem, experience talking Quote
Locked Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I use an improved clinch and put the knot in my mouth to get the whole knot wet before I cinch it down. Without the spit, I can hear the line rubbing against itself. Also, the knot cinches down cleaner and easier with the spit on it. Quote
