Are all Star rods any good? Which one is a better quality All Star or LEWS?

Posted

Can you get ahold of a mid 90's All Star? If so do it. If not go with lews. I really do not like the new All Stars.

There used to be a time when All Star rods were very good, nowdays that the company was sold  -------> :Idontknow:

But if you wanna go with the former staff of All Star there´s another company created by them, it´s called Tour Star, I have fished ith some of their rods and they feel very nice.

I found a new one for half price it's probably an older discontinued model. I just upgraded to all LEWS SPEED STICKS and some LEWS tournament rods. Most were close to $100 with 50% off.

I purchased some quantum KVD tournament bait caster, a few other ones you guys mentioned. I'm all set for this year but that new all star popped up. I hate to pass up a deal.

I still have my original All Star WR1 worm rod plus 2 I found on flea bay. The original rod has made DD trips to Mexico, countless trips to Fork, Toledo Bend & Big Sam. Still to me the best rod I ever used. And speaking of classics, I still have my Castaway "East Texas Grass Rake", the first punching rod before it was called that lol!

I'll take a CastAway over both you listed! ;)

The castaways casting rods are $150.

I purchased the All star pro2 series 6'med rod New for 50% off for $42. Well see when it arrives.

I also purchased my 4yo grandson a batman and a spiderman combos for Easter. They were $12 each. He's begging me to go fishing.

Academy now owns them, they carry them all, my somewhat local one, had the nice 125.00 gold All starts for 60, so I picked up the Carolina one for a heavy worm and football jig rod. I love messing with it

I have had numerous rods in the $100 or less range.  I have broke all types except for one, the older Houston, Texas version of the Allstar classic is still in service for me.  I have 3 of them that I use every week.  Not sure about the newer ones though.  I tried a newer Allstar ASR series that I did not like.

I am a huge fan of Lew's reels.  I have not used their rods yet but I am about to try some to see how I like those.

I have okuma epitor spinnng, Finor spinning and us reel super caster spinning reels. For casting reels it's the quantum code red, us reel super caster, Shakespeare bait casters.

I fished with a $12 bait casting reel for years.

The rods all new lews baitcasting and spinning from ultra lite to heavy duty. I think I purchased 15 lews rods.

One all star spinning rod.

My thoughts are my son's and there families will get them. I don't want anyone crying there getting left out.

I don't know where you are shopping but Academy has CastAway for 45-85.

I was at DSG about 3-4 years ago, on clearance they had an Allstar  inshore redfish rod im 10, so I bought it.  The rod casted beautifully but I felt it was short on backbone and I had trouble hoisting a 1# bass out of a canal.  I returned the rod 2 days later, bought a Calico Jack and have been using it ever since.
