Blue76 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Hello all... My name is Greg and I am from North Ga. I am headed over to Pickwick on Friday to spend a couple of days with my daughter fishing... she is driving over from Oxford Ms where she goes to college. I have never been on the lake... we decided on Pickwick because it is a reasonable drive for her since she has to be back for a team practice on Sunday afternoon. Anyway... I would love to be able to put her on a spot to land a few small mouth... she has never caught one before... but to be honest small mouth , large mouth... I just want to land a few fish if we can. Any tips or pointers would be great. Looks like we will be staying at the Inn and using the state park ramp. Since I do not know the lake at all, I really would like to keep the running around to a minimum... Any places on that end of the lake would be great. If there are any dangerous shallows that only the locals know about that would help.... we have some of those on Chickamauga... you have to know the lake this time of year or you will find a sand bar or two and ruin a good weekend. We don't have many small mouth around here so I am not even sure how to approach this... what technique , what depth should I be looking this time of year, crank baits or shaky heads... or whatever... any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance... Greg 1 Quote
Blue76 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 No replies so I will respond to myself. I went over to Pickwick and fished a little Friday evening and Saturday. Didn't set it on fire but did manage 8-10 fish. Most were smallish. Around 15" or so. Best fish was about 3.5 lbs on a lipless crank. All others were on a shaky rigged worm. At one point when we had no hits for a while I thought I would try something out of the box and put a bubble gum super finesse worm on the shaky head and caught a catfish on the next cast... Crazy. .. My daughter caught 3 or 4 so she was happy. Good to be able to spend time with her. Greg Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted April 6, 2014 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted April 6, 2014 Sorry I did not see this earlier in the week or I would have sent you some GPS coordinates. Our first trip to Pickwick was last years road trip. We caught over 100 in 5 days. Nothing big though. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 6, 2014 Super User Posted April 6, 2014 Well, shoot... I have been out this week with the birth of a new grandbaby. If you go again, send me a PM and I will give you an up to the minute report. -Kent Quote

Bassmafia00 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Headed there this weekend. Anyone have any up to date information? I'll be putting in at the state park. Was there last week but didn't manage anything size wise. Used white spinnerbaits. Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 I am probably headed over this Sunday, but will not have an on the water report until then. Frankly, I haven't even talked to anyone fishing yet. Have a buddy who will be fishing Friday-Sunday, so if he calls, I will post some kind of report! Jeff Quote
unageo09 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Only thing I can add is the water is up to or maybe just past summer level right now. I don't know how long they will hold it there. Last Saturday water temp in the main lake was around 56 degrees. I didn't bass fish last week but it appeared most of everyone was beating the banks pretty hard. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 11, 2014 Super User Posted April 11, 2014 Blue, the problem lies with your daughter going to college in Oxford. Had she worn purple and gold and yelled "Geaux Tigers!" when casting you all would have caught hundreds of both large and smallmouth bass. Welcome to the Forum. Don't go away like others after we answer their one query. Keep asking questions and chime in on the responses. And do you know that some of the most beautiful coeds go to Ole Miss? Almost as pretty as the ones at LSU. UConn may have on the national basketball title but the prettiest girls are in the SEC. 1 Quote

Ole Miss does have a custom on Saturday home games that would fit better at LSU... crawfish low country boil just outside center field... Had my first ever crawfish there this year. Thanks for the tip on the "chant"... Greg Quote
