Super User flyfisher Posted April 3, 2014 Super User Posted April 3, 2014 Nope because perception is rarely reality. Why would i get bent out of shape by someone who only knows stereotypes asking a question? Rather than belittle i guess i choose to educate instead. And all of America is not my family by any stretch of the imagination as there are plenty of people i wouldn't want to associate with unless i had to. Look at the news, what do you see. Shooting at Fort hood, murders everywhere, people on both sides of the gun debate all over the news...it is pretty easy to make assumptions based on what you see presented. We have one of if not the highest incarceration rate in the world per capita, many people feel the need to be armed to defend themselves (which i have no issue with) so the question seems legitimate to me but maybe i look at things differently and don't get defensive instantly when a thought provoking question is asked. 1
Chris186 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Is the same as me gluing a horn on a horse and calling it a unicorn. Im going to be laughing at this all day. 2

So by only using sterotypes I can have an open discussion about you and folks your are close to and you won't get "bent out of shape" ...you sure about that?? If you took off the handcuffs of this being a family forum Im sure you would bend a bit if folks pulled the correct strings. By him including everyone in America..he is including your family(assuming they are from here) I dont think I belittled anyone and at the same time Im not sure any one has educated him on any part of his post, other then helping him define the correct names of different weapons. I was responding to him being surprised folks would get upset by his remarks in follow up posts. I was trying to inform him of how presenting his questions in a more respectable manner may get him much better answers. Lastly I dont watch/listen to any Canadian news so its probably my fault for assuming most Canadians didnt pay much attention to ours.
Super User flyfisher Posted April 3, 2014 Super User Posted April 3, 2014 Actually no i won't get bent out of shape or at least not it manifest itself in an outward display. Nothing good comes out of a angry or heated exchange I would leave the situation or in this case, not read it. To many other things in life to worry about rather than stress about someone i don't know passing judgement on me and my family. I prefer to avoid a conflict if possible that has no bearing on me personally and this is the case here. Speaking in general terms does not indicate you specifically or me specifically but rather what he perceives as reality. I try and assume positive intent in these types of questions, even if i would have chosen some different wording options, until they make me think otherwise. Education is the key and that is always my goal. I saw plenty of posts about what types of weapons could be bought in certain states and the associated hoops they had to jump through to get them....now granted this could be searched and found themselves but so could the majority of questions asked on this board daily... 1

Confrontation?! I'm your huckleberry. I like confrontation. I also like aggression, violence, chaos, filth, destruction, etc. etc. etc. Then again I ain't like other people. I'm a freaking enigma to all of man kind. The "missing link" if you will.

Lastly I dont watch/listen to any Canadian news so its probably my fault for assuming most Canadians didnt pay much attention to ours. Nope. I don't take people stereotyping my ancestors kindly. My family was in trouble in Scotland for our violent ways. The other side is Ukrainian. Always remember my friend, there are 3 kinds of mothers you don't mess with. Mother in laws, Mother Nature, and Mother ******* Ukrainians. As far as including my family. I'm the only gun nut in my family. So that excludes my family. Plus I got ties to the Canadian Mafia. One call is it all it takes. They will Maple syrup him to death. I still don't see the issue here. He made a generalization. Big deal. People do it all the time. Whether they mean to or not. Laugh about it and move on. 1
