swagkid300 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 i keep hearing how people can just walk into wal mart and get an assault rifle, pistols, shotguns, etc is it really that easy to get a gun? no wonder america is filled with gang bangers and weird people who will shoot for no reason.
Super User slonezp Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 Guns don't kill people. Any other comment I might make will break the "No politics and No religion" rules of this site. 2

Super User slonezp Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 The ability to buy guns at Walmart has nothing to do with violent crime. Gangbanger are the result of their environment. The bulk of the violent crime here in Chicago is in a select few neighborhoods. There are no Walmarts or any other gun stores in those neighborhoods. 4
ak47soulja22 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Well, Walmarts in my area do not carry assault rifles or pistols. They do carry long guns, ex: ar15, shotguns, hunting rifles. Gun control hurts the wrong people, to outsiders who think that america is full of gangbangers bc you can just go buy a gun any where is wrong. Is it easy to buy a gun legally short answer yes. My understanding is if your 18 a legal US resident and do NOT have any confections or felonys you can buy a long rifle or shotgun, you must be a clean US resident and 21 to buy a legal handgun. Now can you go buy a assult rifle yes but it's not as easy. And they are really expensive and come with a tax stamp. Look at Chicago for gun control, one of the harshest gun laws but the crime and death from guns is high. It's a broken law that people think if we have gun laws that killings will just stop. People kill people for wrong reasons.
Super User flyfisher Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 The quick answer is yes, it is pretty easy to get guns and no this ease of access does not directly contribute to increasing gun violence. And no, I do not own any guns nor do i plan to anytime soon....
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 It is easy to buy them. Walk in fill out the forms and there ya go. Can't buy assault rifles or handguns there though. Assault rifles are a pain in the butt to buy. Stack of paperwork the size of a phone book, 3 to 6 month wait time (while the dealer holds your money), and cost is around ten to thirty thousand for an assault rifle. Sub machine guns can be had for less. Only around 6 to 8 thousand depending on make or model. Belt fed tripod mounted machine guns will set you back around 50 to 75 thousand. Not really worth the hassle to acquire one just to go out and do a drive buy with it. You think buying an automatic is hard. Try buying a box of hand grenades or a 20mm anti tank rifle. Gives new meaning to the term patience. I do own guns. I have owned ALOT of guns. I use my guns too. I also have owned assault rifles, sub machine guns, and some destructive devices.
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 Is this a serious question? I can't tell, especially considering that last sentence.
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 well duh guns don't kill people!! bullets do silly! Bullets don't either. I kill people!

Brian Needham Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I think what everyone is elluding to is..... you are not an American, so why question our laws. We have lots of things here that yall Canadians dont, it is what it is. this thread is a prime example of why we are even LUCKY to have a gun forum here. the reason you are suspected as a troll in this case is you ask a question in a gun forum from an anti gun tone, not even knowing what an "assualt rifle" even is...and matter of factly state our country is full of nut jobs ... then continue the charade further in your responses. how would you take it if we railed on Canada? that's a serious reply, eh. 1

Take that hag from California in the House, for example. Next different countries have different laws. As you have stated. I don't get the impression he was trolling. He just asked a question. Yeah there are a ton of wanna be ganstas and gang bangers in America. Probably more than anywhere else in the world. Its glorified by the music industry as well as the media. Thusly making it one of the first things foreigners see of our country. Kinda like when you think of European football. The Hooligans are one of the first things to come to mind. 2

Chris186 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I have never seen a gun in any Walmart in my state. That said, Dicks does sell them. I guess you could say its pretty easy providing you can pass the backround check. For example, if you want to buy a pistol in RI, you either need a hunting license or what they call a "blue card". The blue card test is multiple choice, when I took it it was about 30 questions. If you pass that, it takes about a week to get your card in the mail. To get a hunting license, if you have never had one before, you need to take a hunters safety course. If you already have either of those, you go in, pick a gun, fill out the form. There is a 7 day waiting period, so providing you pass the backround check, you can pick up your gun a week later. Now, getting a permit to carry that pistol is a whole different animal. 1
Super User flyfisher Posted April 1, 2014 Super User Posted April 1, 2014 There was a Dateline special on how easy it is to get guns across the country and the one place they featured was right down the street from me here in VA....the rules in VA are pretty non-existent when dealing with private individuals. A handshake is all that is usually done but if the gun was bought from a dealer by the seller it probably isn' a bad idea to let the authorities know you sold it just in case something happens and it comes back to being your gun. In the Dateline special they bought i think 5-6 guns on the walk through the parking lot into the gun show...

Down in Alabama, you fill out the paperwork. They run the background check and your out the door in 10 minutes. That's for handgun or long gun. Concealed carry permit. Fill out the form and wait 7 days. Then go pick up your permit. Up until this year it was a 30 day wait. Plus you had to have 3 people vouch for your character. Now its just a simple form and 7 day maximum wait.
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted April 2, 2014 Super User Posted April 2, 2014 Our state legislature didn't take to kindly to the proposed gun control legislation. They tried to pass a law stating ANY legal Alabama resident, regardless of past transgressions could own a firearm. That got shot down by the governor quick, fast, and in a hurry. We like our firearms down here. Ifn ya caint tell.

To get a carry permit here, first you have to be qualified. That involves shooting a 199 out of 300 on an army L target at 25 yards. Yes yards not feet. Also you can only carry the caliber you qualify with or less. For example if you qualify with 9mm, that's the largest caliber you can carry. Once that is done, you either try and go through the city you live in for a permit, or you go to the attorney general. The AG is ''may issue '' where the cities are supposed to be shall issue. However, most cities now try to send you to the AG. The AG is almost impossible to get a permit from without good reason. I know a couple guys who tried him and were denied. They now have lawyers and its been going on for months with no results.
