Why Are Lines Popping Off The Reel?

I bought the kids the rods and reels and 6 lb Berkley mono

Cabelas lined the reel and then today the line is just popping off the reel.

What am I doing wrong?

This is so frustrating

Do I need to use kvd line conditioner to prevent this?

Do I need to go up to 8 or 10 lb line?

Fluoro? Braid?

It's for the kids

Any suggestions to avoid this would be appreciated

If it's a spinning reel it might have too much line or it's spooled too tightly. One time with a freshly spooled spinning reel I went to cast and the line exploded off the reel, I just cut off the mess and after that it worked fine. I'm no pro, just saying what happened to me, might be the same problem.

If they're spinning reels it's probably due to line twist, and also being fresh line that hasn't conformed to the spool yet. KVD line conditioner will help. Also wrapping line on the spool correctly when first put on will also lessen this. I think those winding machines they put line on with just do it way too fast and not in the correct manner.

Could be a number of things. Definitely don't go up in diameter, that'll just make it worse. Likely, it's too much line on the spool, line was put on the spool incorrectly, or it's too stiff of a line (likely not the case if you're using XL). KVD spray should help tame it, as will just using it and breaking the line in. I'd also get a fairly heavy sinker, cast it a long ways, then reel it back in keeping the line tight. Fluoro will be worse than mono, braid would probably lay more limp, but I don't recommend it for kids because they typically get snagged a lot...braid and snags won't end well; easier to use a mono that can easily be snapped.

KVD Line and Lure will help a lot! I would look into stretching the line a bit  too. get some of that twist out

That winding machine goes like 500 rpm so that wouldn't surprise me

I pulled the remainder of line off so I will re spool it myself

Hopefully that will be the difference

Plus I'll spray some kvd on there

x2.  take enough line off so 1/8" of ur spool is exposed and it won't 'jump' off anymore.

no need to spend extra cash on conditioner...unless you want

sounds like it was overfilled to me. or spooled with a bunch of line twist. as mentioned above, you should keep atleast an 1/8th inch lip showing on your spool. sometimes new line just jumps off like that, after using it a little it will stop doing that. a few fish pulling on it will certainly help it too. i spool my own line personally. and when the line starts jumping off the roll of line, then i will flip the roll of line over and its back to straight again, and keep repeating that until the spool is full. in fact, dont think i had a problem with line jumping off a spool since i started spooling like that, read that here somewhere.

Is there a reason why? It's no different than a baitcaster, except the spool is just sitting there on the floor.

I don't have much experience with spin reels

To me bait casters are easy

if it is that frustrating it might be a good idea to put like 10-15 lb braid on it and call it a day, tie an 8-10 lb floro or mono leader on it to help with snags this will probably reduce your stress levels on this issue...

i know people have alot of rules like clockwise or label up etc for loading line onto reels (spinning or bc).

I reel 5-10 handle revolution and flip the spool b/c coils start to form. just keep repeating (skip to 1:50)

but really my life has been heaven after switching to all braid

If the reels haven't been fished yet I doubt line twist is the issue,  the coiling is most likely do to being overfilled.  I am not a fan of having my reels machine spooled.  The line goes on perfect but since the spool is off the reel you may not know if there is a line stacking problem, if there is you'll find out on your first outing.
