I have searched the forum for information on this but didn't find any. I do check the solunar tables from time to time and the question is, Are we supposed to add and hour to the prescribed feeding times to compensate for daylight savings. I myself haven't proven them right or wrong. I know some people swear by them. Others don't pay any attention to them. I would like to know what you guys think.

I devoted about a year & half evaluating the solar and lunar effects on fishing success (not just our success, but that of others).

At first I thought I was really onto something, but over time I realized that I was biased,

that I was seeing what I wanted to see (we're all good at that)

Like yourself Jacob, I haven't proven or disproven anything, but do totally ignore the Solunar Tables.

Only during the whole spawn! ;)

Off and on over the years, I've tried to schedule my fishing to solunar tables. It's a concept I dearly want to believe in, so I keep trying. But, I've yet to have a solunar period pop out as the best fishing of the day. If fishing is good, it's usually equally good on either side of the hot time, or it's just poor all around.

I just think it's bunk at this point.

The full moon affects nearly every living species on earth and definitely affects the spawning cycle of bass.

Back in the dark ages before the internet I did log books during the 60's to early 70's , about a 10 year period.

The first 4 months of the year Jan to Apl, where I fished in SoCal, my success rate ( hours fished vs number of bass caught; fish per man hour) peaked during the 5 day full moon cycle when the sun was rising or setting 30 degrees of the horizon. Full moon plus or minus 2 days and sun rising or setting creating low light periods.

The balance of the year or summer transition through winter cold water periods the moon had no affect, the sun over head better during the winter, the night being better during the summer.

I fish when I can and focus on big bass during the first quarter the of year always try to be on the water during the 5 days surrounding the full during this time period known today as pre spawn.

If you bed fish, then the sun over head helps the angler see better, the bed bass are not active feeding at that time, they are spawning.

Tom

PS, you always need to factor in weather and we get 90% of our rain during the first 3 months.

I've made my own kind of hypothesis here so take it with a grain of salt but to me a new moon means less light at night therefor bass feed more during the day to compensate.

Tom are aware that the first quarter New Moon has 3 times the affect on every living thing than third quarter Full Moon?

The gravitational pull of the sun and moon is three times greater on the new moon than the full moon. At the time of the new moon the earth has the moon and sun in a straight line pulling together.

The times for major periods are as follows

An hour and a half prior to the moon reaching its apex.

An hour and a half prior to the moon reaching its perigee.

The new moon dark night is only difficult on the angler because you must rely on your sense of feel only. The only advantage of the full moon is the light illuminates the bait against the surface for more contrast.

I fish when I want to and when I can. If I only fished when the "tables" told me to, I would fish far less than I do and that wouldn't be good. I never look at the tables, so I have no idea if the fishing is better or worse according to the tables. I just go fishing.

I go to fish when I can and play the game with the cards the dealer gives me ...............wait a second ! that means I don´t pay attention to them.

Last fall I bought Rick Taylor's Prime Time calendar. It was in the fall and the site had a deal - the 2013 and 2014 calendar for around $20 or something. Anyway, I have to say it is fun looking at them from time to time. Do they work? Probably not or if so then there are a thousand other things probably more important. Or maybe there is only one thing important, the weather! Anyway, I think it is fun to look at from time to time and I will probably buy the 2015 calendar when it comes out.
