Trokar hooks are they worth the price??

There are numerous reviews here on them.  Most not too positive.  I'm not trying them anytime soon.

I like the bait keeper on the flippin hooks. Any other brand have that??

I tried the TroKar Drop Shot hooks.  First time I used them, they worked great for the first 4 or 5 fish and then I started missing a lot of fish afterwards.  Next time I used one, same thing, first 4 or 5 fish, they worked fine, but then I started missing fish again.  They last straw was when I lost a 5+ pound Smallmouth.  After losing that 5+ lb. fish, I switched out to my old faithful (Gamakatsu) and didn't have a problem losing fish afterwards.  My personal opinion is that they dull way too fast.  I am not one to "resharpen" hooks over and over and any hook that only stays sharp for 4 or 5 fish (and that costs over a dollar a hook) is not one I am going to use again.

I've heard the same issues on them, dulling, and somebody on here was complaining about them breaking on a hard hookset.  With that info and the ten dollar price tag, I'm not buying any.  I'm just fine with my 99 cent per pack clearance supply of Strike King Saber Point Hooks.

That's one.  Gambler & Paycheck Baits make one as well.  I've got a friend who uses heat shrink tubing & a dab of superglue and swears by it.  I've tried it and it works for a while it just doesn't stay ridged enough after a few fish for me.  Maybe I'm not using the right heat shrink.

There were some breaking issues early on with the flipping hook, but they have since been resolved from what information has been given regarding the issue. I don't believe you will find a sharper hook out of hte box anywhere, but bent tips and dull hooks after multiple fish seem to be a continuing occurance. I dare say common because I don't know the numbers of hooks sold compared to the number of issues occuring. However, like mentioned above, it appears to be a continuing issue that either hasnt been resolved or is of such low occurance or commonality that Trokar feels it unecessary to publicly address.

I guess you have to ask yourself "am I having trouble with my current hook?" and "are these the only option to fix my problem?" If your answer to both is yes, then i guess you better buck up.

My experience has shown that usually people have hook problems because they are using the wrong style for the application they are fishing. Or they do not take care in how they store their hooks.

The reviews I have heard are marginal at best when you consider the price. The keepers are nice, but at one time some one showed me how they duplicated the keeper. i will have to try and remember what I was shown and maybe I can post the process.

The funny thing is that after I catch a few fish & it's not as rigid it still does the job just fine.  I don't think it necessarily needs to be super rigid to keep the bait in place, I just want it to be

I make my own with regular electrical heat shrink tube I bought at Ace hardware.  It lasts at least a dozen fish or so.  I use a hook (BPS XPS straight shank flippin hook in 3/0 and 4/0) which has one small barb on the shank which helps hold the tubing.  I also use a bit of super glue at both ends.   It is also very important to get the smallest size tubing that just fits over the hook eye before you heat/shrink it.  That will give you the best holding power.

I'll stick with the Gama's. $10 for 4 hooks seems a little overboard especially if they become dull after a few fish. For that price they better hold an edge like no other.

Trokar hooks. I rank them a dead solid 10. My

other favorite brands are Gamakatsu, Owner,

XPoint, VMC and Moaner (Mustad). The treble

hooks on the Megabass Vision 110, Katsuage,

are in a class of their own.

Last year I bought the flipping hooks in 4/0 and 5/0. I found they were very strong, super sharp, and the keeper held the plastics in place well, and they worked like they were designed. I liked them just fine, but I don't like them enough to pay $10 a pack for them when Gamakatsu now has a flipping hook, so I am not buying any more.  There is nothing, NOTHING, about them that makes them worth twice as much as any of the other brands.

Owner and Gamakatsu are amazing hooks. I buy the 25 packs. They are all I buy. I tried Trokar when they came out but they are not better than the others.

I succombed to the hype and tried the flippin hook.  I rolled the points on the first two right off the bat on wood !  I bought Owners and made the collar keepers myself using shrink wrap. That's the deal for me. I have no experience with the other models to be fair.

Small finishing nail cut in half and bent out about 45 degrees works great.  Shrink wrap it on and you're good to go.

As far as the Trokars go, I've tried them, and won't use them again.  The points roll on them after a few fish.  Nowhere near worth it to me at the price tag.  I'll stick with primarily using Owner and Gamakatsu hooks.
