bassboy107 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I am looking for line that I can use on my jig rod. I am looking to for a line that will not break the bank and will hold up the whole season. Last season i just used straight braid and was wondering if there would be a better option now that I have a designated jig combo. So, what type, brand and size would you use? Thanks for the response. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I use either straight braid or braid with leader. Had the same line on for 3 years and it's still going strong. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 29, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 29, 2014 I use 20lb Seaguar Invizx Same for flippin, 15# for swimmin. Mike Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 I let cover and bottom makeup determine what line to use, and whether to use a leader, if I go with braid. In a general sense, braid for weeds and fluoro or a tough copolymer line for rocks. For timber and docks, braid with a leader. If I get hung up, I want to be able to quietly break off. 2 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 i use 15lb seaguar or vicious 12-15. if im fishing heavy cover i use braid with a leader of seaguar 15 lb 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 I like fluoro for hard cover and braid for grass. A good, cheap fluoro is Sunline Super in 16 lb. For braid, I like 50 lb Sufix, either version is good. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 30-lb braid tied direct (our lakes are stained to murky and rock-free) Roger Quote
TxBuddha Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 P Line CXX in 15 or 17. The 20 is pretty stout and gets a little curly for me but the 15 & 17 are as strong as most 20# fluoro. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 30, 2014 Super User Posted March 30, 2014 Braid with a leader Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 30, 2014 Super User Posted March 30, 2014 70lb Daiwa Samurai braid for timber, docks, matted vegetation (no leader) 25lb Vicious Pro Elite flourocarbon for rocks, shell beds, etc Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted March 30, 2014 Super User Posted March 30, 2014 I like braid for grass, and FC for all else. Quote

I really like the way you think, and I think a lot of people can benefit by your post. I use various types of line , braid , mono ,copolymer ,fluoro, and use them where they will be to my advantage. The first time I hung up fishing a jig on a roadbed (16 lb. sunline fluoro) I realized I couldn't reasonably break my line without kinking the rest of the line on my spool. Pitching jigs in the weeds wouldn't be a problem with this line, but hard cover I hated it. I now use line in various strengths that are appropriate for the style of fishing and conditions that I am fishing. When I need to break off that's what I want to do without creating weak spots by kinking my fluoro. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 30, 2014 Super User Posted March 30, 2014 Rarely do I prefer braid or braid with a leader. Give me 10-15# tatsu or shooter and I am happy! Quote
rawjuice Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Ill just straight braid 50lb for thick heavy cover or 17-20lb fluoro for everything else Quote
