I am looking for line that I can use on my jig rod. I am looking to for a line that will not break the bank and will hold up the whole season. Last season i just used straight braid and was wondering if there would be a better option now that I have a designated jig combo. So, what type, brand and size would you use? Thanks for the response.

I use either straight braid or braid with leader. Had the same line on for 3 years and it's still going strong.

I let cover and bottom makeup determine what line to use, and whether to use a leader, if I go with braid. In a general sense, braid for weeds and fluoro or a tough copolymer line for rocks. For timber and docks, braid with a leader. If I get hung up, I want to be able to quietly break off.

I like fluoro for hard cover and braid for grass.  A good, cheap fluoro is Sunline Super in 16 lb.   For braid, I like 50 lb Sufix, either version is good.

I really like the way you think, and I think a lot of people can benefit by your post.

I use various types of line , braid , mono ,copolymer ,fluoro, and use them where they will be to my advantage. The first time I hung up fishing a jig on a roadbed (16 lb. sunline fluoro) I realized I couldn't reasonably break my line without kinking the rest of the line on my spool.  Pitching jigs in the weeds wouldn't be a problem with this line, but hard cover I hated it. I now use line in various  strengths that are appropriate for the style of fishing and conditions that I am fishing. When I need to break off that's what I want to do without creating weak spots by kinking my fluoro.

Rarely do I prefer braid or braid with a leader. Give me 10-15# tatsu or shooter and I am happy!

Ill just straight braid 50lb for thick heavy cover or 17-20lb fluoro for everything else
