tatertester Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I am sitting here recalling various times that I've gotten a hook in different body parts.......One time I was running a gravel chunk rock bank throwing a jig and grub for smallmouth. Got hung up and gave my rod a big jerk , the jig came free and came straight back to me hooking me right between the eyes!...I can still see that jig coming right at me as tho in slow motion..About knocked me out!......Amother time I hooked up on a nice smally , had him in the boat, was holding him across the back so as not to get the Rapala hooks in my hand....This 3 lb smallmouth did one of their nasty shakes and hooked me deep in one of my fingers....OUCH!!!!!...It kept shaking while I am screaming and try to grab it again....Finally found my pliers, cut the hook from the lure...I was bleeding and in pain...Finally ran the hook threw my finger , and just sat there grateful the ordeal was over......NEVER trust a smallmouth to behave after being hooked......Just thinking about it hurts! fishguy613 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 when my cousin and dad were fishing many years ago my cousin managed to hook himself on the very top of the head, didnt look fun Quote
fishva Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Thankfully, I've never been hooked too bad while fishing. That said, when I was a kid I accidentally spilled my tacklebox when I wasn't wearing shoes, and my dad had a pretty rough time getting all the treble hooks out of the bottom of my foot... Quote
DFrench97 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 My Dad hooked his brother in the eye lid when he was a kid. Quote
jhoffman Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 One of my worst was a fly in the webbing between my thumb and pointer. I was reaching to grab the fish when it let loose. I find myself taking the barbs off of hooks in certain situations. Another one I was out fishing with a buddy and we stopped for a beer. I noticed he had a crankbait in his sole of his shoe. I went to pull it out and burried it in my hand. Took a shot and ripped that one out with a key... ugh. Quote
starcraft1 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I've been lucky so far, but a good friend and lake Oroville guide was hooked in both the ear and head with a 7" spook by one of his clients while teaching him how to top water fish. Off to the E.R. he went. Ouch! Quote
macmichael Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I hooked myself behind my right ear. Had to go to emergency to have it removed. Quote
Pz3 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Got hooked near my temple. Uncle did it. Still give him crap about it lol. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 30, 2014 Super User Posted March 30, 2014 Not me, but fishing with a buddy one time and he had borrowed one of my Xcalibur XR 50's and was throwing it along a weed line. He got hung up and was trying to rip it loose. I pulled over there and he gave it a good yank and it was flying back at his face and he put his hand up and stopped it. Both the front and back trebles stuck in his hand. The front was near his fingers and was easy to get out. The back hook was buried in the pad of his hand. He had to force it through to break the skin (that skin is tough!!!!!!) and I had to clip the barbed end off so we could pull it back out. This guy is one of the toughest guys I know. Never even acted like it was a problem (I would have been crying). We finished the tourney and he offered to buy me another bait at the end of the day, lol. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 30, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 30, 2014 When my old dog was half grown he decided my buddies Original Rapala looked tasty. He grabbed it and got hooked through the lip. I grabbed him to try to prevent him from getting hooked worse but he backed up real fast and buried the front hook in my left index finger. Being hooked and attached to a 50lb panicked dog is not a good time. Finally tackled him and laid on top of him while my buddy cut the hook that was stuck in my dog and backed it out, I went to the ER to get mine removed. Had a rod fall over that was leaned against the boat and bury a hook into my calf (again an Original Rapala, maybe why I don't fish them much anymore?) My aunt pushed it through and clipped the point, pretty painless really. My dad caught me on the backcast with a big, deep diving crank. It hit me in the back of the head and ripped from the back of my head all the way to the front, leaving 3 bloody streaks across my head that burned like someone had poured rubbing alcohol in them. Thankfully it ripped all the way out on the cast though. The impact felt like I'd be punched in the back of the head. He smacked me in the face with a flipping tube and 3/8oz bullet weight once also, right in the cheekbone, felt like I'd been sucker punched. Had an 18" brown trout bury the front treble of an EEratic shad into my index finger while I was trying to pose for a picture with it. Thankfully her next flop ripped it right back out. Had a very similar thing happen with a bass with a Baby -1. Grabbed it behind the head but lost my grip when it started to flop. One hook stuck in my thumb but ripped out on the next flop, but buried into the side of my thumb on my other hand as I was reaching to try to control the fish. One more flop and it tore that hook back out. I was bleeding all over and the fish was still on my bait. I already had a basket of crappie, ended up with a basket of crappie plus 1 bass that day Quote
PondHopper96 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Just the other day, I was flipping in submerged trees and i got line wrapped around my finger and I threw it out, barb went all the way past the skin! Luckily I pulled it right out! Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 There's an episode of Hook and Look (a few weeks ago) where the host is fishing in Chattanooga and he gets a treble hook in his finger. Wow. Maybe that's one reason I hardly used anything with treble hooks last year. I do remember looking at the fishing stuff in Walmart and I started talking to another guy looking at the stuff. He told me he only use single hooks and never has to worry about getting treble hooks stuck in his fingers. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 30, 2014 Super User Posted March 30, 2014 Been hooked 3 times, emergency room resulting from an 8" bass, treble buried in my thumb. The other 2 times were on the beach fishing with a pappa dog, with 4x vmc hooks, both in the leg. Got the hooks pushed through but could not bend the barb to back it out. Luckily both times there was other people around and they were able to flatten the barb for me. Good idea to get a tetanus shot. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 30, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 30, 2014 0:05 of this video is probably one of the most sickening sounds to me. Wouldn't need the title to know what happened. Quote
Yumf2 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 You know you're a fisherman when you're debating what type of line is best for pulling hooks out of flesh Quote
