Starcraft1 (Bruce) was kind enough to take me out in his fancy Skeeter on Lake Oroville Monday.  Great guy, wealth of knowledge and pleasure to fish with.  The fishing was a little slow at times, but it didn't take away from the great experience.  If you ever get down there, stop by Paradise Tackle.  Bruce is an expert jig maker and knows all the colors, sizes, etc to catch fish on most any lake.

ps - I didn't forget the deer jerky

  • Thanks Mike (MRam10us), had a great time also. You've got to call again later in the spring. With all this rain we're finally getting the bite should be getting better. 25 fish on Oroville at this time of yr.? BAD DAY!, I'll get you a better one soon! As for now, the trailer is down for repairs & up-grades (brakes, lighting, side boards, bunks, & new receiver/ hitch) should be ready in a couple of weeks. Also working on the stalling problem. Looks to be a prop problem. REMINDER, THE JERKY IS A DEAL BREAKER!!!!!!!!!! LOL!

The trailer will be lit up like a Chirstmas tree after all is done, after all I live in a town full of old bay area drivers! They like to run into things!

Lake Oroville....awesome place.  Used to camp there with the bass boat for tourneys when traveling down from Oregon.  Loved all the deer in the camp.  Was told to be carefull in the fall due to the rut....I know the bucks sure weren't intimidated.  Even had a bat in the shower room and a frog in the overflow in the sink.  Had some great memorable trips there.  Oh yeah...fishing was awesome too.

Ore. Native,

Your right about the deer & fall. I've heard stories. Went down to check water levels last Friday and had to wait for 4 does to decide to move out of the road, plus a few turkey buzzards to leave their mid-day meal. All in the middle of the road just as you turn into the park.

The big problem now is mountain lions. We've got so many of them there going after fawns and have been seen on the west side of the lake near some great L.M. coves. Lots of bush busters fish those coves and it could prove to be a big problem for them. In the last 16 yrs. of fishing Oroville, I've only seen 1 lion & 1 shadow of a lion, but it's spring and they'll be out in force ,all the wild life. Bears, lions, deer, turkeys, buzzards, eagles, osprey, and whatever else ma' nature has to offer! Please, NO WOLVES!!!

Considering the bleeding hearts from socal that moved into your area, maybe they would enjoy me bringing some of the wolves they helped plant in Idaho.  Nothing better than a canadian grey wolf eating your livestock ... pets .... family :)

This was taken about 20 miles from my elk hunting area.  Makes me sick that we have to kill these beautiful things, but they bring absolute destruction.  4 of them took out 80 sheep one night.  And, no, they did not eat them.  Just killed them and ate some guts.

I'm looking at S. Ore. Grants Pass area. No sales tax, gas is 15 cents cheaper, Great people, vote no banners every where, Rouge river for small jaws, 5 lakes for large mouth, not to much snow, and lots of water. I've never heard of Oregon having a drought?

The libs. out here are just a little to much!

Heading out again tomorrow, was going today but 30 mph winds with 45 gusts don't sound like a good fishing day! Not at least by yourself. Will give a full report on Oroville tomorrow night. Should be great fishing!

Welcome Orobass, I'm up the hill from you. If you shop at Oroville outdoors (Bass tackle depot) you might have bought my tube jig heads. Paradise tackle.

Good to see another Oroville guy on here. Also the after bay is starting to get a good frog, senko, and jig bite. I try to fish it once a week. With lime saddle just about our of the water (maybe 30' to go) The Paradise boys are going the have to make the 50 mile round trip to your side just to launch! Going out Tues. and finesse jigs and tubes are going to be the bait, along with top water in the morn.
