I use the Berkley Cross-lok snap in size 1. Just make sure you check your line for frays. It's very easy to forget to check and then lose a bait or fish because your line was frayed.

I use duolock snaps in whatever brand I can find. I just make sure that the end of the wire is bent enough to ensure that it actually locks.

do you get better action by using snaps?

If you tie directly to the split ring, you'll have the same action as you would with removing the split ring and using the snap.

Duolock #2 and personally I feel my baits run better with a snap instead of a split ring.

X3...not sure how much, if any, a snap improves the action, but it just makes it so much easier to change cranks.

Mostly the DuoLock snaps with the occasional Norman's Speed Clip thrown in.

I do! I do!

Works great.

Will save you lots of time while on the water.

Put them on a safety pin and then in your tackle box as that way you can get to them easily.

Use whatever ones you think will work best for the size and depth of your crankbaits.  :)

X2 Norman Speed Clips.  They seem the most like split rings to me.  I'd just tie direct to a split ring but am too lazy!

I use a ball bearing coastlock snap swivel on all hardbaits as I only use spinning gear and it hepls with reducing line twist my Co-Angler doesn't but there hasn't been a huge difference in the fish we both catch other than he at times catches more but I'll catch bigger so I guess it's 6 of one and half dozen of another. I'll take quality over quanity any day.

I also usually remove the split ring from the bait since I'm using snaps. The snap is just a convenient way to change baits. As was said earlier, you still need to frequently check your line for frays. I re-tie after every fish if I can...and I always check the line and re-tie when I get home, even if I caught no fish. The stress on the knot from repeated casting takes it's toll and periodic re-ties are important.

I used to use snaps, then i noticed that the snaps wouldn't fit into the wire loop or i had a hard time getting them to fit in some crank baits. Also i noticed that when i tried to get the split ring off that it would mess up the bait and i would have to spend time top tune it correctly. Just seemed like more hassle than tying line so i stop using them.

I remove all of the split rings from the line tie position. Use one or the other.

Does it affect the action that much?

Dual lock style by Mustad. I rarely use a split ring, even the oval style anymore.  I have yet to loose a bait and I think they help a crankbait achieve it's full action. The convenience in changing baits is also nice.
