B A S S E R Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Who uses snaps with their cranks and what snaps do you guys use? Quote
tholmes Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I use 'em most of the time. Either Duo-lock or BPS fast-lock. Tom Quote
CSimon2 Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Sorry, but I tie directly on the line. If I were to use a snap, I would use ones like the Bass Pro Shops Fast-Lock Bass Snap. Quote
bmadd Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I use the Berkley Cross-lok snap in size 1. Just make sure you check your line for frays. It's very easy to forget to check and then lose a bait or fish because your line was frayed. Quote
Super User Marty Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 I use duolock snaps in whatever brand I can find. I just make sure that the end of the wire is bent enough to ensure that it actually locks. Quote

Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 do you get better action by using snaps? If you tie directly to the split ring, you'll have the same action as you would with removing the split ring and using the snap. Quote
Stringjam Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I use the Berkley Cross-lok snap in size 1. This Quote
BIG M Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Duolock #2 and personally I feel my baits run better with a snap instead of a split ring. Quote
MNGeorge Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I use duolock snaps in whatever brand I can find. I just make sure that the end of the wire is bent enough to ensure that it actually locks. X3...not sure how much, if any, a snap improves the action, but it just makes it so much easier to change cranks. Quote
jdw174 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Mostly the DuoLock snaps with the occasional Norman's Speed Clip thrown in. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 I do! I do! Works great. Will save you lots of time while on the water. Put them on a safety pin and then in your tackle box as that way you can get to them easily. Use whatever ones you think will work best for the size and depth of your crankbaits. Quote
Beav Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I like the Norman speed clips for cranks. have used the others. Speed clips are the way to go for me. Quote
BobP Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 X2 Norman Speed Clips. They seem the most like split rings to me. I'd just tie direct to a split ring but am too lazy! Quote
Pa Angler Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I use a ball bearing coastlock snap swivel on all hardbaits as I only use spinning gear and it hepls with reducing line twist my Co-Angler doesn't but there hasn't been a huge difference in the fish we both catch other than he at times catches more but I'll catch bigger so I guess it's 6 of one and half dozen of another. I'll take quality over quanity any day. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote
zelmo Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 For those of you who use snaps, how many actually remove the split rings? Quote
bmadd Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I remove all of the split rings from the line tie position. Use one or the other. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 18, 2011 Super User Posted February 18, 2011 I use duolock snaps in whatever brand I can find. I just make sure that the end of the wire is bent enough to ensure that it actually locks. X4 I also usually remove the split ring from the bait since I'm using snaps. The snap is just a convenient way to change baits. As was said earlier, you still need to frequently check your line for frays. I re-tie after every fish if I can...and I always check the line and re-tie when I get home, even if I caught no fish. The stress on the knot from repeated casting takes it's toll and periodic re-ties are important. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I used to use snaps, then i noticed that the snaps wouldn't fit into the wire loop or i had a hard time getting them to fit in some crank baits. Also i noticed that when i tried to get the split ring off that it would mess up the bait and i would have to spend time top tune it correctly. Just seemed like more hassle than tying line so i stop using them. Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I remove all of the split rings from the line tie position. Use one or the other. Does it affect the action that much? Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Dual lock style by Mustad. I rarely use a split ring, even the oval style anymore. I have yet to loose a bait and I think they help a crankbait achieve it's full action. The convenience in changing baits is also nice. Quote
