hello everyone,

was just wondering if people could give some suggestions for rods that fit the description of a heavy action x/fast tip rod that is over 7'. if possible something that is not over 150 would be great too. thanks again.

The Johnny Morris Signature series has a 7'6 H that would do well. Probably around 129.99. I think they are on sale on the website at the moment.

Powell diesel may be a good rod as well. 69.99 or less.

The new Daiwa Tatula heavy action rods are my top pick. They are normally 150 but can be had for under 120 through a site sponsor.

I have the Veritas 7' heavy Xfast. It doubles as a chin up bar when I'm not fishing with it. I really like it and think its a great rod. TW has them for $80.

What are you gonna use it for?

What are you gonna use it for is the main question... Some rods are H XF and have a lure rating of 1/2-2oz and some have a lure rating of 1/2-3oz... It all just depends on what you're going to do with it.

Heavy is the power, x-fast is the action.

Yes !

Before I would consider an extra fast action, I need to know what I'm going to use it for.  Based on my recent experience of last week for me a X-fast tip was a negative.  Using the rated max lure weight the tip was way to whippy, I labored casting that rod and I felt in back as well.  Taking the very same lure and putting it another rod with the same specs except a med fast rod, distance and accuracy increased, with no pain in my back, casting was effortless.  Additionally IMO an extra fast tip promotes a snap cast, I prefer a long flowing cast.  I took that extra fast tipped rod back 30 minutes after I bought it.

You used an extra fast with a soft tip, most extra fast rods are very stiff. The Quantum Dean Rojas frog rod in their Tour Tactical series is a 7' MH-XF and it has a limber tip but only about 8" or 10" and then it hits the backbone. On the other hand is a St. Croix 7'1" MH-XF and if you put the max lure weight on it you'd be lucky to get it to bend more than an inch. There are rods that have the same extra fast rating that ae totally different.

thanks for all the responses! and yes my mistake heavy power xfast action. i am looking for a rod that would double as a froggin/flipping rod. generally from my experience i really like that xfast tip when manipulating something like a jig hence the preference. hopefully that gives a little clarity.
