Carolina Boy Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Hope someone can help I have googled this and tryed everything. Software is HDS4.1.36.68, Transducer is HTS-WSBL. The correct transducer is selected in setup. IF I go to menu> menu>Network>data sources>sonar water Temp is not listed. water temp selected and on in data overlay. All I get is _ _ _. I have tried a new transducer and still have the same problem. I have owned the unit for about 2 years and water temp has never worked. I did not get the HDS5 new it came on the used boat. I can not get the head unit to do a soft or hard reset. I held the pages key and power together and it just cycles on and off. Tried the zoom in and zoom out with the power key and nothing. Any ideas??? Thank you Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 28, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 28, 2014 Go to menu> menu>Network>data sources>sonar and hit "menu" again, then select "local". Then see if it shows up under menu> menu>Network>data sources>sonar>water temp To perform a soft boot, with unit off, press and hold Pages, press and release PWR. Continue to hold Pages until unit boots up completely. Quote
Carolina Boy Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Thank you I will try that. Someone told me low voltage will cause lowrance to close menus such as water temp. I was at 12.2 volts. Problem? There's enough voltage to start the optimax. O Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 28, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 28, 2014 It has to be below 10 volts before you have any problems. Usually the unit just powers down when that happens. Quote
Carolina Boy Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 I tried and still water temp does not show up in network>data sources>sonar. Even with local selected. I did a soft restart and reconfigured the correct transducer with no luck. I even reinstalled the software just in case there was a corrupt file. May just be time for a new unit. If you can think of anything else I'm all ears. Thank you. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 28, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 28, 2014 Does it show up under menu> menu>Network>Device list? If not, hit "refresh list" and see if it shows up. Also, are you certain the transducer is working and has the temp option? Quote
Carolina Boy Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Glenn, In device list "refresh" does not bring the Temp option back. The Transducer was replaced with a new HTS-WSBL thinking this was the problem. Sonar was worked like a champ. Thanks again Quote
Todd Driscoll Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Glenn has given you good advice above. Menu, Menu, Network, Data Sources, Sonar, Water Temp is where you make your proper water temp sensor selection. The HST-WSBL has a temp sensor (T in the part number indicates this). What you should see for your proper selection is something like "HDS 5 this device." Make sure it is checked. Quote
Carolina Boy Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 Thank you for the reply. When I go to menu>menu>Network>Data Sources>Sonar There is no listing of water temp or transducer type. I set the transducer type in sonar setup and saved the info. HDS-5 this device is selected but invalid. also i noticed that when selecting the HTS-WSBL transducer there are no menu for temp offset or should I say correction. The only place temp is listed is in data overlay. It is like water temp is not an option on this machine. Thank you for your knowledge. Quote
Carolina Boy Posted March 29, 2014 Author Posted March 29, 2014 Thank you for the replies to this post Update: I saw the Lowrance rep today and he could not get the temp to work ether. He said he was not sure if the HTS-WSBL transducer was correct for a gen1. I have research to do. Thanks to all Quote
Todd Driscoll Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 The HST-WSBL skimmer is 100% compatible with HDS Gen1. I have never observed a head unit that does not display the available water temp selections under Menu, Menu, Network, Data Sources, Sonar, Water Temp, assuming a functional temp sensor - not to say it couldn't happen though. Considering you replaced the ducer, this would essentially eliminate the potential of a faulty temp sensor in the ducer. Couple of other things to try. First, try deleting your current water temp overlay from the screen. Then, go back to the temp selection under Data Sources above, and try again to select "HDS 5 this device" as your temp source. Then, add your water temp as overlay back to the screen. If this doesn't work, try a hard reset (back your .usr file up first to an SD card, as this will delete all your waypoints). Hard reset - press and hold ZIn and Zout, press and release PWR. Hold both Zoom buttons down until unit boots up completely. Quote
Carolina Boy Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 This is what the Lowrance rep did, and I tried it again just as you have posted with no luck. As I acquired the uiit used on the boat, all I can think is a possable bad pin on the head unit. We got the temp listed and turned on. It only shows three dashes. I did this on the water as the rep said it would not read temp on the trailer. Thanks to all that have replied! Im going to live with it untill I can upgrade. Quote
