gar-tracker Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 We have often discussed lake Trafford here with people asking how it is now. I was sent this link and found it to answer many of our questions. http://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/FLFFWCC/bulletins/acd9f9 Quote
1234567 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I read that and am very optimistic about trafford. I joked though that both bags were caught from two teams cruising the shoreline and catching the five biggest bass in the lake off beds. I hope later we hear about some real giants being caught again. My hopes are high as this lake is only thirty miles from me. Quote
0119 Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 Yeah I got that FWC email about that. No mention if they had done some gator eradication though. The contract trappers had really dumped a ton of them there much like they did to Myakka Lake. Quote

I did hear that the lake was infested with them and now I know why. Quote
0119 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Yeah they put so many in one spot I think it really puts the food chain out of wack. Lower Myakka Lake has so many that the kayak club counted something like 20 gators per 20 yards of shoreline! Makes me feel like I need a bigger boat! The pics on youtube look like the Nile River, they are literally laying on top of each other. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted March 29, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 29, 2014 At a kids tourn last week 19# won on Trafford. Talk about exciting for a lake that everyone thought was dead and would never be back. Great News!! Mike Quote
bocabasser Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 My friends Ross and Joe took Susan Cocking out 2 weeks ago and did well. I've never fished the place before, but it's always good news to hear a lake that was once thought of as dead, return to glory. http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/03/27/4020776/bass-fishery-comes-back-to-life.html 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted March 29, 2014 Super User Posted March 29, 2014 For some time the lake was a gar and mudfish heaven. That is great to see all the hard work is paying off. Its a nice option for fishing, and not too far away. Quote
gar-tracker Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 We used to head out there when canals turned off, problem is for SFL guys its about as far as Okee maybe farther. Quote
