Got1Fishing Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I just can't stop buying jigs and cranks... someone help me! I just ordered $70 worth of stuff at TW. Another $60 at Siebert Outdoors... and there's more... $60 at NorthStar Custom Baits... Plus I ordered a new rod... I'm sure I'll buy a reel here soon for the new rod too... Is there anyway to kill the Bait Monkey? 1 Quote
719BassFishing Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Dont think i could help. Ive ordered about $400 worth of tackle and rods in the past couple of weeks haha. 1 Quote
mjseverson24 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Yes there is... go fishing the monkey leaves you alone for the most part until you need to replenish supplies. but it seems each year the monkey comes back in the off season and is bigger and more demanding than the previous year... funny how that happens... Super User tomustang Posted March 26, 2014 Super User Posted March 26, 2014 Instead of sitting around and ordering, get out and fish them, it'll buy your time away Quote

hoosierbass07 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I think the general consensus is: No, there is no cure! I want every freaking soft plastic made! Quote
Got1Fishing Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 I live in Greensboro, NC and the weather here has just been crappy. One day the suns out and it's getting hot.. the next day it's raining, snowing, or the temps drop too cold to fish; IT SUCKS! I've been fishing on the days where the weather allows... but I just can't help giving in... I have a tournament on Kentucky Lake April 1st... so i'm looking forward to that.. but until then.. The Bait Monkey just keeps hitting me hard. Quote
Missourifishin Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I thought there was no cure. But then I hit rock bottom. When it got to the point where I had spent so much on gear that I had to worry about having enough gas money to get out and actually fish, I started to change my ways. 1 Quote
FrogFreak Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 The first step is admitting you have a problem. The second step is......never mind I have to hit Cabela's again. Gotta go! Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Yup, fishing is the only cure. Then you find out you didnt need 90% of the crap you bought. 1 Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Fortunately for you, this condition is harder on those around than you. It is wrong to call it a problem. But if you feel you are about to od on all this stuff, send it to me I will bear your burden. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted March 26, 2014 Super User Posted March 26, 2014 Yup, fishing is the only cure. Then you find out you didnt need 90% of the crap you bought. If you can get to this point, you may be able to "curb" the problems but i don't know about eliminating them…. i recently got to a point that i realized i hadn't fished a good 50% of what i owned and that made me realize i had a problem…. i thinned out a lot of my stuff here on the flea market and now have an arsenal of tackle that will LIKELY be used…. Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 No! ive been spending all my food money on baits, im down to a hard roll with nothing to put on it........................................... i love college haha 1 Quote
Fish Murderer 71 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I'm going to answer your question with a question. Does your boat still float? If it does, then you dont have enough tackle! Quote

The Bait Monkey just keeps hitting me hard. I live 15 min from Greensboro and I agree the weather has been insane. It gets warm during the week and I say to myself looks like I'll be fishing this weekend then it drops 30 degrees and snows on friday. To the original post I'd say there is no direct cure for the bait monkey but getting out and fishing helps and I'd say selling some old gear helps as well. You'll always buy more than you sell but at least you can justify some of those purchases as replacing some of your old stuff. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 Is there anyway to kill the Bait Monkey? Yes. You drown it with sexy baits. If it hasn't died yet, you haven't bought enough. I've been on a frog kick lately. Other than that though, I usually stick with a lot of relatively cheap plastics so I offset my expenditures to some degree. I can't not buy new looks for heavy cover froggin/poppin/etc. I just love it so much, it's almost all I want to do anymore and the options and baits just keep getting cooler and cooler. Quote

papajoe222 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Put some monkey porn in the DVD player or whatever. It won't kill him, but it'll keep him occupied long enough for your wallet to gain some weight back. Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I have accumulated far too much over the last several years. Having too much clutters my mind. I took the time to figure out how much I might get to fish this year and where. I made a Tackle plan and looked at my inventory and then saw what lures/terminal tackle I would most likely need. My stock up for the year ran a little over sixty bucks. When it comes to hard baits, I could give away 60% of my collection and never miss a lure. I might just do that anyway. PM me, I'll give you my address and pay for the shipping, so it'll be completely painless on your part. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 Yes we have all admitted we have a problem, not enough cash to buy eveything we want. And if anyone says they have all the fishing equipment they need.....they are in DENIAL. Only hope you have is to give all of your stuff to all of us and quit fishing to break that monkey. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 Unfortunately the bait monkey has the Mike Iaconelli attitude of NEVER GIVE UP!!! Dang monkey!! 1 Quote
