I was just wondering if any of you use snaps on spinnerbaits? I have done this in the past. I use a small peace tubing and place it over the U bend and then hook on the snap. This way the snap does not slide down the shaft. I know alot of you tie right to the wire. Because this is more of a reaction bait that I would not think the snap would not matter! Now maybe I would catch alot more bass with out the snap, that I do not know. What is your input on this? :)

Buy shrink wrap electrical tube and use on your spinnerbaits works great. I like red. For me smallies straiten spinnerbaits and the shrink wrap leesens this.

The only time I use a snap swivel on a spinnerbait is when I am fishing for musky and need to use a steel leader. When I do, I put a split ring just big enough to fit over the R bend and then hook up the leader. Otherwise I tie directly to the spinnerbait. With adding a snap, you're just adding another piece to the puzzle that could fail.

When I have to urge to change spinnerbaits a lot, I use a snap too. I buy mostly twisted wire baits so I don't have to bother with the snap sliding down the shaft. If I want to use a "R" bend bait, I use some prepared ones that I have wrapped some braided line around the "R" and them put some super glue on it. I've tried rubber tubing and shrink tubing also, but both slip off the bend after a few fish.

I do this a lot, especially when I'm trying to establish a pattern. I'll just tie on a snap and then try spinnerbaits, cranks, and jerks to see which one works best. Switching between these baits is much faster and easier with the snap.

Twisted wire spinnerbaits are great. Every bait needs to be tuned before packaging thats the reel reason for the r-bend was invented.

Simple little process very repeatable and they doubled the price of spinnerbaits.

i dont even bother with snaps, after a little effort you can learn to tie quickly and efficiently. to me, like was already said. its one less piece of the puzzle to fail.

I find these snap threads very interesting.I myself never use them.

because:

1.Don't like using another link in the chain that could fail.

2.May or maynot change action or feel of bait.

3.I retie alot i.e. catch a fish, get snagged or hung, visual inspection of line

      and knot.

4.can tie a palomar knot very fast, feel no need for the ease or quickness of

     a snap.

5.Confidence in bait, will change technique or presentation first not bait.

6.Most important reason of all, Papaw said never to use them.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong here JMHO.

That is one thing I will never do. Using a snap with a jig. I had a guy fish with me that decided he would say he had no spinnerbaits since the fish were bending mine up ::). Ruined 2 or 3 before I got really rude with him. If you also like loosing spinnerbaits on your cast, snaps are great too. ;D

While I will use snaps with hardbaits I never use them on a spinnerbait. If you try more than a couple different spinnerbaits and cannot get them to work you are using the wrong lure. Usually if I am changing spinnerbaits I am just using a differnt weight of the same color.
