Xyndifor Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I'm getting married in a month (April 26th) and I just had an epiphany about something to do on our honeymoon. I want to surprise her and take her on a guided striped bass fishing trip somewhere on the coast although I'm unsure if they'll still be up on the coast or if they'll all be running up the river somewhere chasing the shad at that time. I know it sounds like something most people probably wouldn't do on their honeymoon but she always wants to go with me and originally when we were planning on going to Florida she wanted to go with me on a tarpon guided trip. I was thinking about somewhere near Cape Cod but we will be in Maine for 3 days prior to that but another possible thought I had was somewhere near the mouth of the Connecticut river where they're running up. Anyone have any suggestions or know a good guide service for something like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Quote
tommiller76 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I would do a little research before making a choice. There are plenty of sites dedicated to stripped bass fishing. Mantauk, and points northward are normally a good place to start but it's hard to say because this winter has been so brutal. Here in NJ most guys are waiting for any sign of stripper run. Unfortunately until the weather stabilizes this will remain uncertain. Calling guides from the different regions up and down the coast should help you to eliminate any stripper free waters. I hope you are able to find what you're looking for and congratulations on the wedding in advance. Good luck and be safe.... Quote
jhoffman Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Some inland lakes have stripers year round ... or are they wipers(hybrids?) Quote
MIbassin Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Maine has some d**n good striped bass fishing! Quote
Xyndifor Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Thanks guys. A friend got me in touch with one of his friends that does striped bass guided trips out of Connecticut. Going to give that a go sometime in May when the bite is on. Hoping to catch the biggest fish of my life but most importantly get her a big one. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted March 31, 2014 Super User Posted March 31, 2014 Forty years ago on April 27th how weird is that? We were on our honeymoon. We went to Niagra falls on the Canadian side. We had three days of pouring rain it was boring during the daytime. I asked my new bride if she has ever been camping. She said no I said let's go home and go camping. She had a blast. We rented a row boat and went bass and trout fishing. We forgot a spatula for flipping the pancakes and turning the eggs. I was throwing them up in the air with the pan and catching them. It was a great time. More fun than the falls was and cheaper too. Here we are 40 years later still flipping pancakes. I realize the other day there is no perfect marriage, we just tolerate and put up with each other a little better than most married people. Even after 40 years it's still a work in progress. We're still in love. Btw, Good luck on your journey your about to commit too. It's great to go on this journey through life with a partner. You will have ups and downs during this journey I hope it's more ups than downs. Sometimes it's a test of our character to see what we're made of. My advice is if you ever argue never, never stop talking to each other. God bless you on your journey through life together, enjoy. Don't forget to look at the fishing stuff at the Kittery Trading Post in Kittery,Maine. They have some awesome Dragon flies in there fly shop too. Plus good prices too on some clearance stuff. There best prices are in September. They have a special week of sales. It's an excuse to go back there. Don't pass up the local fresh seafood too. Quote
