Give one of these a shot, stand out from the crowd, and see what happens.  You don't hear anything about them on here, but many other sources say they are a great rod.  Okuma Concept C3-40X.  I checked other places a while back, and another site had them new for $130 shipped, but cannot remember the website now.  Here is a link for reference :      http://www.okumafishing.com/product/view/rods/tournament-bass/c3-40x

St. Croix AVS69MLXF

I'd go with this. It's a little above your high end budget, but you get a great rod with a lifetime warranty.

Fenwick HMG ML-F 6'10"

I just got mine and love it $100 rod with great sensitivity and very lightweight. Plus you have money left over for other goodies.

The M power Shimano Crucial Dropshot rod, 6'*8" sells for $149.  Fuji Alconite guides, IM-10 graphite, lifetime over the counter warranty.  That's a lot to like.

The Crucial Dropshot has a true "hinged" action that is custom designed for dropshotting, with 18" of light power fast action tip transitioning to a M power butt section with enough power to handle big bass.  I have both the ML and M rods in this series.  Of the 2, I think the M power rod is the better choice since it is just as sensitive, casts light weights just as well, and can handle bigger fish more easily.  I also use them for shaky heads and throwing very light crankbaits like #5 Shadraps.

Lamiglas Drop Shot Special, 7'...Not sure if you can find one but if you can...

I have 3 other dropshot setups.

LAmiglas Pro X -7' Medium

Perfetca - DS/Senko/Fluke

Abu Veritas - 6-10 ML (second favorite)

They are mostly average, but the dropshot special is rediculous!!

I would either go with the Avid MLXF or the Powell (Max or Endurance) that fits your length and price range in M/XF. I personally use my 6'8" Max casting rod (discontinued, dont know why!) for light weight applications in shallow water and it performs excellently for me! Balance is fantastic and the sensitivity is great, powell is a fanstic rod company that doesnt get a lot of mainstream love

Ended up getting a 6'8" Med XF Crucial as well just cause I happen to have the right amount of cash.

Love it. Feels nice when hooking on to smallies or largies.

I already have a M/XF dropshot rod that I use and love. I also want a ML/XF which is why I started this thread. I love Powell rods and am definitely leaning towards getting the ML/XF Powell Max. What can anyone tell me about that rod? Good to know you love yours bassclary
