Either the Bill Norman Mad N or Thin N.

Heddon Swim'n Image or Spit'n Image.

These are total sleepers. whenever I tie one on, it's automatic, fish!

What are some of your hardluck stories of great lures that never really caught fire, for some reason?

I'll tie on a Heddon Swim'n Image in the Speckled Trout pattern from time to time. I find it a good substitute for a silver Shallow Shad Rap for when I have a stiff wind in my face as it is somewhat heavier than the Rap.

The action and diving depth are not too much different between the two.

I bought a Spit'n Image years ago (like 2000 or 2001) when XCalibur produced them. It made it to the bottom of my box for years until last spring. It turned out to be one of my top producers last year.

Another bait that saw some action was SK's Rocket Shad. I had/have 2 I got a few years back and last year it saw some action with good results. I never would have thought a spinnerbait that small would produce that well.

With all the hoopla over square-bills lately, I am going to say the SK series 4s. I have caught tons of fish on that bait. It's got a little tighter wiggle than a big fat square bill like the Rapala DT 3, and I can walk that thing through a submerged forest and not hang it, deflects very well. With the new silent crank bait rage, and the intro of the new KVD square bill's by SK......I can see it fading into the background even more.............fine by me, if the discontinue them I'll buy 100's of them and stash them away.

Storm Rattlin thin fin..... Has been a great producer for me and is a real solid shallow shad imitator.

Speaking of poppers.... the storm chug bug has been great to me as well

Storm lures in general seem to not get a lot of respect, wonder why that is.

I was fish in walleye in Ontario back in the 90s long before I got deep into bass fishing here in KY and the old Storm pre-Rapala hard baits are tough to beat. If I'm not mistaken, they seemed to always have a bigger following up north - Michigan, Minnesota.

I still have a nice selection of old wiggle warts, thin fins, and thundersticks. They always produce!

I think it's because you don't have to spend $10.00+ apiece for each lure! Believe me, a lot of fishermen are for "high-end" or nothing at all. And that's fine, but then they also bash the lower cost products too - in my book, that's not fine. I love these baits and their "Wild Eyed Shad" swim bait has accounted for a lot quality fish for me over the past several years.

X3 on the Thin Fin - you don't hear much about them anymore. I have one tied on right now, caught a bass on it just before the water got hard. Will be fishing it again starting in a couple weeks...

Only downside is the old expression about these - casting them is like trying to cast a potato chip! :)

I'll add a vote for the Norman Thin N, even snapping turtles can't resist.

The Lucky Craft Mini SKT DR, Moonsault 100 and 001 are others. The Mini SKT DR is great for clear water. No rattle, small profile and LC ghost colors are tough to beat with gin clear water.

The Moonsault 100 is a great niche crankbait. Cold water, shallow flats, areas you might use a Flashminnow 95 or 110. It does not come through grass well but I use when the grass has died back.

Moonsault 001 is a solid wake-bait.

My original Fred C Young Big-O hand signed crankbait. To me its the holy grail of cranks, it only catches LM's 3 lb+ . Its amazing.

I'll second the Megabass X-80 Trick Darter, I love that jerkbait. Most people overlook the TD's and go right for the 110's but that's perfectly fine with me. :)

Another one is a Kinami Crankbait. It dives 5-6' and rattles but they're limited on colors. I got a couple in a trade once and caught so many fish with those 2 that it wasn't even funny. Someone mentioned on here that they were on clearance at Academy for super cheap so I got Catt to pick me up every Kinami crank he could find. I've got 8 or 10 left. When I get low again I'll definitely be trying to find some more.

I have to agree with you on this one ww2farmer! I use these things all of the time and always catch fish. Great baits at a cheap price! wooo hooooo :)

Rebel Pop - R's. Same thing, everyone turns their nose up at them because it says Rebel on the package and you can buy them at K Mart. They catch fish, that's all that matters.

Yo - Zuri Pin's Minnow. The only mention I see of Yo - Zuri here is their line. They make some killer baits as well. A little pricey but not ridiculous.

The $2 Cotton Cordell Super Spot with upgraded trebles is one of my favorite crankbaits and is an excellent cold water bait.  This lure fouls very rarely around weedy cover.  It's super tight wobble seems to repel the weeds.  The Spot is one of my go-to lures search lures in the fall.

I like the spot as well, always had good luck with one, and if you lose it, the $2 is easy to swallow.

Nothing wrong with a Pop-R, caught my very first bass with one. Still have it, still use it.

When you talk about Storm baits you have to include the Hot N Tot very dependable for many years.

Here's another for Storm. Especially Wiggle Warts both old and new.

storm maybe under rated in most of the country but a WW is probably the most thrown bait on table rock lake in MO during the cold months there are even stores that still carry the originals in original colors new in box and they go for like 20 bucks a pop
