papajoe222 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Anyone with first hand experience with this company's ABE7 reel bearings? I'm thinking of upgrading the bearings on an older reel, but can't justify the cost of a set of Bocas on a reel that I only spent $100 on. I saw these for about half the cost of the Bocas, but am a little leary about pulling the trigger on them as I have no experience with this company's products. Quote
TrippyJai Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I have 2 sets of stainless steel ABEC7 bearings from them and no problems. They are quality bearings. Not much difference between them and the stock bearings that I flushed from my Shimano reels though. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I don't know HP specifically, but counterfeit bearings do exist. My suggestion would be Boca ABEC5 Lightning bearings. The performance is there and the cost is less. I assume you've flushed and oiled the stock bearings? 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 25, 2014 Super User Posted March 25, 2014 Take a look at Hawgtech bearings instead. Quote
TiNuts Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I got a set of abec7 ceramic bearings from mikes reel repair that I think are just as good or better than bocas abec7 ceramics, and about half the price. Hedgehog studios also has some good bearings that are worth looking into. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I recommend BigGreenFish.com for really nice top of the line SS ABEC 7 bearings. I have several of them. 1 Quote

Capt.Bob Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Big green fish sells quality SS bearing at a great price, and is very well known, I prefer SS over the Ceramic anyway, I have always had to run ceramics wet to tolerate them, so no real advantage. Quote

I agree with this as well. Can't stand the sound of ceramics. Quote
I.rar Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Hp bearings are shield less fwiw. Not sure how that effects performance but makes cleaning easier. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 all are shield less,,,,,once I remove the shields.... that has nothing to do with quality, the best bearings I can buy come with shields. Quote
