py8pointer Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 okay can someone tell me why my hooks on my crankbaits get hooked up on the bill.. right out of the box they do this, and not sure why. my guess is because of a little slack in my line, but not really for sure. Quote
719BassFishing Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Treble hooks will always get hooked around something and cause problems once in awhile. One thing you could do id change the front treble hook out for a smaller one so it isnt constantly getting caught on the bill. Quote
BobP Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Well, cranks hit the water tail first and the belly treble is thrown toward the lip, slack in the line or not. So it's mostly about the design of the crankbait and the size of the hooks on it. If you look at the most popular crankbaits through the years, functional features like whether the trebles tangle or hang up on the lip count toward why those cranks became so popular. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 25, 2014 Global Moderator Posted March 25, 2014 Wiggle warts are terrible about doing that, but they catch fish like crazy so I deal with it. Quote
Super User CWB Posted March 26, 2014 Super User Posted March 26, 2014 Have you tried switching the front hook with a short shank hook? Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 26, 2014 Super User Posted March 26, 2014 Hooks are free hanging and you're launching them into the air, they're free to swing any which way and if there's not enough room in between the bill and the front hook hanger they'll hook on it sooner or later. You can remedy this by putting on a smaller hook or a short shank. Quote
