Storm???!!! Is this a reputable bait? I was always under the impression that their soft bodied swimbaits were like childs play.

I caught precisely 3 bass, all under 12", one crappie, and one bluegill that somehow managed to foul-hook itself on those Storms. And I ran through 6 packs of threes. Hmm, maybe I wasn't fishing them right.

Being gear-challenged, the only "swimbait" I ever had any luck with is the 4" SPRO BBZ shad. (Yes, it's whole body swims; so by definition it is a swimbait.)

If any of you have been following the trend of my recent posts; I hope to update my response in a few months.

I dont doubt that some have confidence in them,but like I said I always thought Storm swimbaits were childs play.

I havent had too much luck on a swimbait. So far the only one I have gotten a bite on is a Huddelston Shad,of course I wasnt expecting it and the fish came unbuttoned. So I might say thats my favorite(as of right now)

Unfortunately, I've only caught bass on Shadilicious and Berkley hollow-bellies; however, I have Spro BBZ's and Tru-Tungsten hard bodied baits with no takers. I should make myself throw them every outing in 2011 so I can catch something or lose them. Either way, I will not buy anymore soft or hard bodied swim baits.

Curious as to what you mean by childs play?

If 36 bass up to 5lbs in 5hours on 2 baits is childs play then yeah they are. I think in Cali where the water is gin clear there is a real need for expensive life like swimbaits. Where I fish the water is moderately stained to stained and there is really no need for the high dollar swimbaits. In all honesty I used to look at these baits and think the same...I bought some and would have moderate success with them. My problem was I was fishing them like a crankbait. I was fishing them to fast. It wasn't until I really slowed down with occasional pauses to make contact with the bottom that they really started producing. I'm sure to some my first example IS childs play but in ND most would agree that its a pretty decent day. Also forgot to mention I was fishing  from shore.

X2..... Except, I rig mine 'Fish Chris' style Pretty close to Butch Brown style.... except I leave out the wire and crimps. I know Butch catches more bigger bass than I do.... But he still needs to take lessons from my rigging LOL

PS, About that 3:16 wake jr, it's a beautiful bait. I've had several hits on mine, a few hooks up, but landed even fewer of those, and none over about 4 lbs.

On the other hand, I can throw a big, ugly, 9" piece of broomstick with hooks on it (otherwise known as the MS Slammer ) and get twice the action + more hook ups, and fish in the boat !

Still, my biggest fish on the MS, or any topwater for that matter, was only a 9.7 lb'er.

Okay, so they are fun, but the biggest fish almost always come on sub surface swimbaits.... often dragged right on the bottom.

I have 4 favorites:

Fish Arrow Monster Jack

Gan Craft Jointed Claw

Mattlures Baby Bass

So far, my most productive has been the baby bass, but it 's not strange, it 's simply because I 've had it for a lot more than the others.

Use Triton Mike's Bull Shad swimbait.  5" will catch more #'s but the  7 & 8 inch are for for trophy fish.  6" is a good all around size.

I've had pretty good luck with the Storm prerigged swimbaits but those new ones you have to put the head into suck! I know a few lakes with deep weeds that you can rip them out of and catch some fish. I mainly use them to catch hybrids and whitebass though. My favorite swimbait is the 4" Strike King king shad. Haven't had much luck with the 3" but the biggest 5 fish limit I ever had was on a 4" king shad.

Nothing at all wrong with Storm's baits. Just because they are not as pricey as some others doesn't mean a thing. They catch fish - period.

As far as larger baits go, I'm infatuated with the BBZ-1 Jr. that I just started throwing last season. Love the way it turns back around 180 degrees on a rod twitch! Incredible action. Has caught some decent fish for me so far, although nothing I'd classify as huge.

I also have a 6" & 8" Hudd that I've tossed for big smallies in a deep reservoir hereabouts. Nada as yet though...a few big follows keep my interest up. And I like the Stocker Bass for it's action, but haven't had a follow on it yet, let alone a taker.

There are tons of expensive swimbaits out there. Only your pocket book and imagination can control the outcome.

3:16 Wake Jr.

Ive caught bigger fish on other baits, but it is my favorite to fish. Except the bait I built, but they werent really swimbaits.

Based on what I've used so far I would go with the Matt Lures Hard Slow Sink Male Bluegill. I've also done well with the 6" River to Sea Live Eye Bottom Walker. This year I will be expierimenting with a variety of recently purchased swimbaits and it's likely some new contenders would be added to the list. Glad to hear positive reviews on the 3:16 Wake Jr as I've added this one to the arsenal a couple of months back.

Storm swimshads work just fine, they come in good sizes and excel in deep water as they put new meaning into fast sink. Not my favorite but i do throw it time to time.

Favorite right now are the high power herring for hard, berkely for hollow body, sebile magic swimmer for the soft.

****if it counts- the 3:16 no bull frog can be a blast in slop.
