Rod Help

I have a *** Black and i love how the rod blank is and everything, just one thing, i hate the reel seat. Should i force myself to like it or return it for a new rod? If i do im looking for a rod with an ECS reel seat in the 100-200 price range.

Well since you kind of hold the rod by the reel seat.....IMHO, no sense in forcing yourself to like it. If you hate it now, your probably always going to hate it, and since the thing you hate is always in your hand your going to be constantly reminded of it. I have gotten rid of rods because I didn't like the reel seat, so it's not just you.

yeah if it bothers you then just return it, because it will always bother you when your fishing and then a couple months down the road you will be wishing you returned it when you had the chance!

i was going to trade it in for a kistler Pro series rod, has anyone used any?

Kistlers are great rods with a great reputation but little fanfare.

I just wished they had an ECS reel seat and not an ACS, how do the rods balance, are they better with heavier or lighter reels?

I now have three Pinnacle rods which I have mixed and matched with the Pinnacle Reels I have reviewed,

Shimano Core and Curados plus a heavier round reel, CTE200GT.I am please with the balance. The rods

are responsive and crisp. I have no issues with the reel seats or any other components. I think Tournament

Series is on par with G.Loomis IMX Series at a significantly lower pricing point.

 

Let's throw in the St. Croix Avid Series, too. I am a big fan and consider these rods a great value.

RW has been raving about these rods for the last few months and this weekend at a tourney I was given the oppurtunity to give the DHC5-701CAMH a try. I tied a 1/2 ounce PB&J jig on it with a Zman Crawdadz trailer and it must have hit the sweet spot on that 7' MH rod because it was a perfect. Even though the Jig bite was not on I still really enjoyed the rod. I kept going back and forth between My Tatula and the Pinnacle and really enjoyed them both. Build quality and components were excellent sensetivity was great and so were the looks. I would keep this rod in mind for people shopping in this price range.

Zillion 100SHA. A little havier of a reel but I did not notice a balance issue.

Do you disagree with the fanfare part? I just feel that because come stoically, the reels are very "bland" that not a lot of people talk about them or show an interest in them.

Well,  I remember vividly how the Carrot Stiick was introduced. As time went on the

rods broke easily, replacement and customer service vanished and the hype around

some mysterious carrot particles disappeared. Maybe some of that this has changed

now, but their reputation in tarnished. For those "collectors" that already own all the tackle

they really need, experimenting with Kistler or any other brand it no big deal. However,

for those that view the purchase of a new rod a BIG investment, I think there are better

alternatives.

The new Kistler pro series is nothing but a Carbon Steel with Kigan tangle free guides, you'd be better off getting the Carbon Steel with the American Tackle stainless steel guides with the nanolite inserts, they are pretty good guides compared to the Kigan. So save 20 bucks and grab one of those, and as far as reel seats go, do you care for any of the skeleton reel seats like the Fuji SK2 or Pac Bay Minima? Right now blanks are about as light as they are going to get unless some radical new technology shows up but it isn't likely to be anytime soon. So with that being the case you are seeing more and more manufacturers going away from the ECs reel seat, Dobyns is one of a few higher end companies still using them and the St. LTB is using the Fuji SK2 now, I think the Avid series still has the ECS but personally I didn't care for the ECS, the trigger is too wide, the ACS and the Fuji SK2 are both good reel seats.

I had a rod with a trigger that annoyed me once and I just got an old steak knife tip red hot and cut it down to about the size of my other rods that I dont notice the trigger on. Cut it off round and then sanded it with a strip of 800 grit sand paper till it wasnt rough and went bag over it with a strip of 1000 grit till smoth then polished it with some buffing compound and a dremel and you could barely tell it ever had trigger modification done to it.
