Super User bilgerat Posted February 10, 2011 Super User Posted February 10, 2011 When you are in the market for anything fishing related, how much does an endorsement by someone famous play into your decision ? Me personally, it's zero. I'm admittedly somewhat cynical by nature. I have no particular beef with pros endorsing a product, business is business. I often wonder if companies can accurately determine which segment of their sales can be attributed to having a 'pro' hawking a product. It amazes me when, for example, KVD wins a tourney with a Strike King lipless crank and they fly off of the shelves, as if that particular bait will suddenly put fish in your boat. The bait was the right tool for that situation. An hour later it could have been a Mr. Twister grub on a wally world jighead that did it. This isn't a knock on Strike King or KVD, they were just examples. Quote
I.rar Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 it doesnt matter who is on the front of the package or that the bait won a tourney 8 years ago on some lake 900 miles from me. i do have a bit of brand preference though. and honestly , i dont follow the pros enough to know what is 'hot' on the market. Steven Ladner Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I don't buy because of endorsements either. I'll buy a product if someone I trust has done well with it. Quote

Listening to pro's or other fishermen talk about specific products I like to draw my own conclusions. For instance if Skeet or KVD said they won the classic on Swim Senkos (LOL) I would have to investigate how that would be possible before committing. Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 For me it gets me to look at it. If its endorsed by someone i admire then i will take a look at the product they endorse. If its not a high ticket item and i like the way its looks i may tr it for myself. If it is a high ticket item i will do a little more research and get some reviews, maybe even try on for myself before buying. Essentially all a name does is get me to look at a product. Case in point is the KVD 1.5 and 2.5 i like KVD and his fishing abilities are without question so i took a look at the new square bills but they didn't seem any better than what i am currently using so i haven't bought any.. This ^^^ I buy what looks good to me, what I've had luck with in the past, or what I strongly believe I'll have luck with in the future. In other words, I buy a lot of soft plastics, shaky head jigs, and spinnerbaits. ;D If a pro happens to use or endorse the products I buy, that's cool too, but it makes no difference when I'm loading the cart. Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 10, 2011 Super User Posted February 10, 2011 ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
MNGeorge Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It's not so much the endorsement of a product by a pro that interests me. However, when I read that a pro, or someone who's opinion I value, has had some success using a particular bait, I usually will give it a try if it seems to make sense for how I fish. Quote
bassking1976 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 i dont buy mainly based on what the pros use but i use their techniques n lures to better my own fishing knowledge they are pros for a reason i wont pay top dollar for a pro endosed lure but get a cheaper alternative and fish in same manner and like bill dance but will never buy anything he endorses based on the fact that he fishes them in stocked private lakes Quote
Hot Rod Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 A single endorsement doesn't mean anything to me. Though if I see a particular bait has performed well at multiple events and has praise from multiple tournament contestants while on the stage, then that has some pull with me. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 11, 2011 Super User Posted February 11, 2011 Endorsements mean a lot to me but from a different source I started using Senko's after an article in Gary Yamamoto's Inside Line, Senko Beyond Weightless by Russ *** dated 02/15/2002. I started using Oldham's jigs after witnessing Terry Oldham's success flipping/pitching/punching matted grass on Texas lakes. I started using Rage Tail because of Steve Big O Parks; he sold me on Steve before he sold me on Rage Tail. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted February 11, 2011 Super User Posted February 11, 2011 I like to watch the pros to see what they are catching fish on. I care less usually about the specific bait than the class of bait, how they are working it, time of year, water conditions, weather, etc. As bassking said, it is more the technique that I am interested in. There are guys on this Forum that have influence on my buying. When some of you guys recommend something I figure it is worth looking at; some others not so much. :-X ;D Quote
backwater4 Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Endorsements have "0" influence on if I buy or not. I've never had much success fishing what other people like. I pretty much do my own thing. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted February 13, 2011 Super User Posted February 13, 2011 Zero for me, regardless of the product, or sport involved. Quote
