Skeet22 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Would you use a craw (with the legs attached for less action) , a Beaver, or a paca craw with a glass rattle? Will be doing alot of this for our tourney this weekend but I cannot decide which bait to start with. Most of my punching has been done in the summer and I use some sort of craw with a lot of action. The sun will be high and bright sat and I found some areas with plenty grass and lilies and believe this will be a productive pattern. I will be punching some stained and clear water so will be switching colors from black/blue to watermelon/red. Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 For times when I want flipping a bait that has virtually no action, yet "looks" as if it should, I turn to the Zoom Super Hawg. I am fond to the Junebug color because most of the waters I fish it in are really stained to just downright muddy. I must admit the first time I tried this bait, I actually hated it. I didn't catch a fish and it had absolutely no action to it though it certainly looked as if it should have. I gave it a second chance when I ran out of beavers one 99 degree summer afternoon and was surprised at how well it produced. I suggest you give this bait a try. It has caught a TON of fish for me when the bite is off or the water is cold. Carlos Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I forgot to mention that this bait helped me land a 6lber the other day right off the deep end of a laydown. I simply pitched it out there, let it lay for a good 30 second, one hopped it and got smacked! Quote

Carlos Funny you say that, a friend of mine in our club and I were having this conversation yesterday and that is his punching bait of choice also. I will pick some up on my way home today. Ive always wanted to try them anyways. Junebug is one of my favorites, I've done well with it in muddy/stained and clean water. Thanks fir the tip.. Quote
Vickers Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Skeet22, I do most of my punching with a Zoom speed craw... It has a little action with those claws but nothing too crazy. It works for me around here.. GL, where are you fishing your tournament? Quote

Its going to be tough, who ever figures out a pattern first should prevail..we will see. Quote
piscicidal Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Larew Biffle Bug. For a more subtle action in cold water just cut off the big legs, leaving the eight small legs and paddle tail. Quote
