There could be a balance issue with the setup, which might make the reel feel unnecessarily heavy. I made some assumptions about the rod used and they may be unfair. The 300E probably feels awesome because it's well-balanced with the 7'8" glass rod. It's also perfectly acceptable to just plain not like certain reels. Quote

I fished a tatula on a 7' mh tatula rod and thought it was a nice balanced combo. I have my tatula r on a 775 endurance and it's extremely well balanced for a flipping combo. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The shimano curado 300E is one great casting reel, but the tatula, should be able to hold its own against it in a fair comparison, maybe it just needs a breakdown flush and relube of some of the essential components. I think this is one of the first less than positive reviews on the tatula as far as performance and not size and ergonomics that i have seen on this site... Mitch Quote

Mitch I don't know about this site alone, but I recall reading a bunch of comments regarding the casting performance of the Tatula early on. Some said it was less than stellar but usually a bearing flush or replacement cleared that up. I have cleaned out all spool bearings on my 3 Tatula's and was definite improvement of it's free spool capability. I expect they will cast great! Quote

Mitch I think the fact he was throwing a spinnerbait might have had something to do with the casting as well. They aren't exactly the most aerodynamic baits out there. I have a few Tatula's and they hold their own against just about anything I've used (they're no Calais/Calcutta DC, or Z2020, but they cost a LOT less). I've upgraded to OS7's in my Type R and one of my regulars as well and it made a little difference, but not a whole lot. They cast pretty dang good right out of the box. Quote

I don't do maintenance on my reels. I am going to start tho. Based on the videos and recommendations on here, they say the manufacturers pack the reels with extra grease. The reason is most folks, including myself, don't take reel maintenance seriously. Due to me upgrading my gear, I will be taking better care of my reels and rods since I'm sinking more money into them. Also based on what I've read here, I'm going to give the Tatula a good go when I get the funds. Quote
