S_Miketa6 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Just curious if anyone see's a major difference in there fishing while using one. I've read a few articles where some pros always have it ready or won't leave without one whether it be a hydrowave or an older model. Ive heard mixed reviews so I'd like to hear what you guys think. Brian Needham Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I bought a boat with one on it. I had to send it in for repair........ once I get it back, I will be paying very close attention to what this unit does and how it does it. be looking in the future for threads! Quote

Super User Sam Posted March 23, 2014 Super User Posted March 23, 2014 VanDam says they work for him but I believe he may have a financial interest in the company so what he says is tainted. Others have posted on this site that the Hydrowave does work. Please let us know if you find there is a difference if you get one. Brian, let us know your experiences, too. Quote

DrNip Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 If I'm not mistaken I read an article last year about those guys that caught the 49 lb limit and they were using one. I didn't know what one was at that time until that article because I had to Google it. Quote
Big Swimbait Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I've got the regular & the mini. I use the mini on my dock for the grandkids because it runs on a 9V battery. I will be honest, there were times it made a difference & times I couldn't get bit. But the one thing that convinced me that it was doing something was the day I had Cormorants all around my trolling motor. I turned it off & they went away - turned it back on & they returned. As far as KVD, it is interesting when he had the prototype in development, he absolutely dominated. Now that they all use it, the field seems a little more balanced. Could be a coincidence. 2 Quote
MikeinFresno Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I cant get my mini to work, it makes no noise. If I turn it on should it make a noise I can hear or is it something the human ear cant pick up? Quote
basscatcher8 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I've heard guys swear by it and heard guys say it was a gimmick. And there has been a pattern. Guys that are fishing big impoundments down south where the spots really school up are swearing by it. The guys that are in the shallow stuff flipping and pitching in the marshes and shallow grass say they are a gimmick. They definitely arent magic boxes they are just another tool that used right will help your chances in connecting with a fish. Quote
oufaninks Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I will make an attempt to briefly explain my experience with Hydrowaves and I have verified this with guides and some Elite friends of mine. Will keep it simple and basic. If you are in deep water and the fish are located on bottom structure I have found that on several occasions having the Hydrowave on will pull the fish up off of and away from structure. I feel this makes the fish tougher to catch. If in shallow water where shad exists, having your Hydrowave turned on will make the existing shad excited and can make bass more active. This is where having a Hydrowave has been useful. White bass and Stripers when schooling, I have no clue if it is beneficial by keeping the fish active and close to the boat longer. When I am fishing for these schooling fish, I do have my Hydrowave turned on and turned up all the way. Can't hurt anything. As for the operation of the Hydrowave, they could have done a much better job on the human interface of this product. I have sent mine back for not working, received it back. Have to have the trolling motor out of the water and turned way up to hear it. Have to do this to verify that it is on and working. Do not like how you have to operate it. 1 Quote
"BRB" Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 60% of the time it works every time! I have one and I'm not 100% sold on it. Sometimes I feel like it made a difference And other times not so much. Which makes me doubt If it worked when I thought it did, maybe the fish just turned on. But I still use it and on more than one occasion I feel like it worked. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I want so bad to pull the trigger on one but I just cant get the word gimmick out of my head. Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I got mine back from repair. Great customer service.... in fact I think they just sent me a new unit instead of repairing. Not bad for something that was already on the boat when I bought it! Hope to use it this weekend and see what it is all about. Quote

Super User Jeff H Posted April 29, 2014 Super User Posted April 29, 2014 Some have commented that in covering up TM/electronics noise makes it worth having anyway. I don't have one and probably never will. I have enough crap to deal with mounted on my boat as it is. 2 Quote
jcoholich Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I have tournament fished in the college level the last years and this is my first year running the hydrowave and I have personally noticed that my fishing has gotten better and the fish quality has increased. I am not sure if the unit works or not but i will never go fishing without it now. Quote
