MIbassin Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Hey guys!, My parents got a house in Boynton Beach and I'm super pumped! There is a nice looking pond right behind the house! Anyway, for all you florida fisherman: Are there any tips you are willing to share? What are the staple lures i NEED to have in my box to catch bass year round (mostly December- April) Any good local spots you know of? Also, it doesn't matter if its fresh or salt water! All tips/suggestions are welcome! Thanks Quote
Super User MCS Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 Flukes, gambler big EZ, ribbon tails, creatures and/or beavers, top water frog, burner or speed worms, Stick worms. Are probably "staples" but you could go with almost any plastic fished the right way or time of yr and produce. As far as hard baits go, topwaters any style, jerk baits and lipless are the main stuff. Spinnerbaits and swim jigs. Quote
JellyMan Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Any plastic really. Fish at the shorelines, cover, and drop-offs. Thats the name of the game here in Florida. My staple baits are Zoom ultra vibe worms, brush hogs, space monkeys, anacondas, jigs, torpedoes, and trick worms. All in watermelon, watermelon red, pumpkin, and junebug. 1 Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 22, 2014 Super User Posted March 22, 2014 Boynton is my area. When you are going to be here should be the determining factoring in what to catch and where to go. Bass should be fairly easy to catch now, there are many canals that hold good fish in the Lyons Rd/Boynton Beach Blvd area, plus the community ponds in Canyon. I did stumble upon a north/south running canal on Lantana Rd, @ Cadillac st. A park on 1 side of the street and nursery school on the other side, I did real well the only time I was there. For a turkey shoot there is a pond @ Target around Forrest hill on the east side of the street, loaded with pads and bass. This time of the year with muck and vegetation I'd be fishing nothing but weedless flukes and senkos. That said, this is spring and saltwater is coming alive. Lots of mullet and glass minnows, fish are tough to catch with all the live bait, we have been catching jacks over 20#, mainly in the ICW at sunrise. Quote
MIbassin Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Thanks guys, i guess i should be more specific. The times i will mainly be down there are christmas, mid february, mid april, and sometime over the summer for a quick weekend…does this help at all as to what lures i should primarily be using? Does topwater such as the buzz frogs/toads work well those time of year? If not, what does? Thanks!! Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 25, 2014 Super User Posted March 25, 2014 Xmas thru February I'd suggest to an out of towner to focus on freshwater fishing. Use the kind of baits conducive to your water conditions and what you have fun with. From April thru out the rest of the year as far as I'm concerned that's saltwater time, whether you can do that is going to depend upon your mobility. I may have said this a thousand times, when in a location that offers something other than what you normally catch at home, it's hard for me to understand not taking advantage of that. Besides in the warmer months here bass can be a struggle. Quote

Bitters vibe in blue berry - t-rig 1/8 th oz tungsten pegged on 20 lb power pro. 7-11 Med with HS reel Baby paca craw - t-rig with 1/2 oz to 1.5 oz pegged on 65 lb PP. 7-9 Heavy HS reel. Rage Toad t rig with 1/8 oz tungsten pegged on 65 lb. 7-6 MH with HS reel. Rage Menace on a Rage rig on 65 lb PP. 7-6 MH with a HS reel I have probably 10 other setups on the boat but these five are always on the deck and catch the majority of my tourney fish. I cut this out on an old post I responded to last year. These are not the only ways to catch fish, but it will give you a good start. 1 Quote

MIbassin Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Thanks guys! I'm getting the idea that Florida is mostly soft plastics!! Also, when do lipless cranks and swim jigs come into play down there? Also, when is topwater good time of year wise?(buzz frogs, spooks etc..) Quote
Pz3 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Just be observant. If fish are hitting top water or subsurface you will know. If they go deeper adjust accordingly. You really cant go wrong here in the spring/summer. You will see bass coming from deeper water chasing baitfish shallow most of the day. Quote
Super User MCS Posted March 27, 2014 Super User Posted March 27, 2014 Yeah you can throw a lipless or topwater almost anytime of yr and catch something if you vary retrieve, location and time of day you throw it. lol but Pz is correct watch and you will figure out 1 Quote
