Super User ChrisD46 Posted March 21, 2014 Super User Posted March 21, 2014 For those who flip thick mats with heavy tungsten weights (3/4oz. +) do you find color makes a difference ? I ask because most heavy tungsten weights mostly either come in Green Pumpkin or Black - but at the 3/4oz. size (and larger) you only get one tungsten weight per package at $7.00+ which starts to get a bit pricey ! ... Do you find a benefit or advantage for having more than one color heavy tungsten weight for flipping - if not , what color heavy tungsten weight would you settle on ? Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted March 21, 2014 Super User Posted March 21, 2014 It's a confidence thing. It doesn't make a difference in my opinion. By the way check out alleystungsten.com 1 Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 7.00 is way too high for a tungsten weight in 3/4-1oz. I sell the 1 oz for $4.56. http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Tungsten-Flipping-Weight-85.htm?productId=65 Anyway. I've always used 2 colors. Black or GP. Main reason is I typically only throw those to colors of plastics. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I also stick to basic colors but I'm not so sure the contrast would hurt anyway and might even get a bite you wouldn't have otherwise Quote
frogflogger Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I have put stick on eyes on them, not sure it helped - I almost always use unpainted weights Quote
doyle8218 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I use whatever I have. I don't see it making any difference at all. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 21, 2014 Super User Posted March 21, 2014 I do have colored tungston... And polished... I buy whatever I need at the best price I do believe color matters... Just not on flippin weights Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 21, 2014 Super User Posted March 21, 2014 All my weights are black. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted March 21, 2014 Author Super User Posted March 21, 2014 Locally about all you see at the big stores are the Strike King tungsten weights which are quite expensive - I appreciate the replies on color as well as new more cost effective sources for tungsten weights . Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 i'm more concerned with rate of fall than color. big difference between 3/4oz and 1.5oz falling. they can see a lot less in the darkness of dense weeds. this is a much different scenario than fishing a jig in clear open water where a bass can stared at ur lure for an extended period of time.3 the bottom content is also more important to me than color. you want to find a rocky/gravel bottom under those weeds. if you feel the clicking of ur tungsten against gravel you are usually in the right spot of the weed patch...bass should be biting shortly Quote
NathanW Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I bought tungsten bullet sinkers in bulk. But just looking I couldn't find the website. I think it was bulktugsten.com. The price per each piece was incredibly reasonable but I had to buy minimum 50 pieces. Was not a problem for me because I think I ordered closer to 100 pieces. Great quality too, all had inserts but I could remove the insert with a drill if I dont want them in there. Smart investment if you can find such a website because I know I did not pay over $1.50 per 1 ounce sinker. Painted a handful of each size green pumpkin. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 24, 2014 Super User Posted March 24, 2014 Virtually all my sinkers are black, green pumpkin or unpainted (lead & tungsten). I've never witnessed any difference in success based on sinker color. On the other hand, if a certain color combination enhances your comfort level, then go for it. Roger Quote
