I follow Butch Brown on Facebook and it seems he has a huge following of folks throwing really high end($$$) DEPS swimbaits.

Ive seen countless pics and videos posted of people posing with GIANT Bass. Watching the videos of the action the bait gives off, kinda makes me say "MEH?"

Its obvious these do work but what about them is so appealing to the fish? For what ive seen, $150+ for a swimbait is worth it to catch the trophies these guys are hauling in. I personally wont spend that kind of coin...I doubt the fishery here has any fish the size ive seen hauled in by others using these swimbaits.

LOL, plenty of guys in Arizona throwing them right now.

I'm not a fish so I can't really speak for what is so appealing. Bottom line is they work.

Just seen a guy post a 9.2lber from AZ caught on a Deps. Like Speed said there are a bunch of guys from your state chucking big baits and catching pigs. Most lures are built to catch fisherman, lots of action and flash. Many of the big swimbaits that produce consistently will make most fisherman say MEH but they're appealing to the fish. Maybe because it's a big easy meal? Who really knows but they work.

They are producing but i think throwing a swimbait is something that takes time to learn and patience to actually do.  You truly are looking for those one or two big bites in a day and most people, myself included, don't have that type of patience but thsoe who do, catch some big fish for sure and many in places people thought there weren't big fish.  I am contemplating going for it this year and making myself take the tiem to learn the technique.

Regardless of the size of fish in your lakes, proven swim baits, always produce some of the biggest fish in the lake. I'm not chunking huge baits, but what I throw are pretty big - 6-9" -and they do work. Haven't tried any of these baits yet, but the Deps baits I've used are quality, and worth the money. Buzzjets…mmmmmm.

To the OP, I'm fishing PA and MD with these things. I've got three of them.

The only limit to the size of bait you can catch a fish on is your willingness to throw them.

Where are you seeing $150+? I saw like $26 but that's about it

I believe I've caught fish in every state that I fish on a swimbait greater than 6".  Some have been huge, some have been 12" fish.  If a bass can fit his face around it, they'll try to eat it.

Deps are stellar baits.  I wish I had about twenty of them.  I've got three, and am always on  the lookout for more.

Look at a big baitfish, like a trout, juvenile bass, hitch, gizzard shad, whatever, when they're swimming they don't do a whole lot. When they're swimming and their guard is down they do even less, little tail movement, maybe a little side to side head sway, but that's about it. 8" Hudds probably account for more fish over 10lbs each year than about anything else and they do very, very little other than the tail wagging a little and looking big and easy to catch. Personally never thrown the Deps baits, my wife would kill me if I spent that much on a bait, but if I ever have the money or find a good deal on one I'll own it and fish it here in Kansas because our lakes are such big bass factories  :laugh5:  I've seen enough fish that didn't even weigh a pound smack my 7" MS Slammer now to not think twice about throwing a bigger bait.

That's just because Slammers have a magic all their own.  I can't believe the number and range of fish I've caught on slammers.

They do move an incredible number of fish, all sizes too. They look kind of ridiculous in hand but once they start moving in the water it's a whole different story.

"Deps" is the creme de la creme of lure manufacturers, I love everything they produce.

Their R&D division is six sigma, but there is one caveat. Deps produces many limited edition baits.

Apparently they're only interested in barnburners, so when sales taper off on a lure, they're quick to discontinue production.

Deps has left me flat on several lures, so now I stockpile their baits.

Oops, now you know who's responsible for all those "Sold Out" banners   :laughing7:

That 13" smallie was one of the most violent surface strikes I've ever seen.
