bassin is addicting Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 i've got a chance to pick one up from a buddy. it is about 6 years old. 6'6" heavy. i know it is shorter than what i would like but i can get it for $80. is it worth it? i've never had a GLoomis rod before and don't know much about them...except they are too high for me new..but i don't want to drop $80 if it is not worth it.. Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Personally I do not like that length, I prefer more a 7' in general. I guess it depends on what you want to use it for? From just your description, I guess I'd use it for heavy jigs in shallow water..maybe close quarter pitching/flipping. Even then my preference would still be using a 7' rod. Knowing Loomis the 4 power rod is usually more like a MH from other manufacturers (ratings), so in that length it could be a decent spinnerbait/topwater rod..possibly jerkbait. Anyway, if you actually are intending to use it in your arsenal and it enhances your arsenal. I say go for it. If you just want your first G Loomis rod and experience the G Loomis brand, I'd go for at least the IMX level (going by general consensus). Please note though, I have never fished a GL3,..I have 1 GL2 and a few GLXs. Quote

Super User Raul Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Ok, what RW says is true ..... only to a certain point, if you are going to drop only $80 for a GL3 there is NO better option available for those same 80 bones, at 80 bucks it´s a steal. 2 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 Well since you ask.... I think if it's in very good cond..? Yes ..not so good... Maybe pass Rod is 6 years...old .. As far as length I have seen Many many times where that 6'6" to 6'9" range was/ is exactly what I needed Good luck! Hope you enjoy ur loomis! Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 19, 2014 Super User Posted March 19, 2014 I own a MBR784, mine is an IMX, but I feel it´s perfect in length, power and action for my everyday fishing, I fish, in practical terms, almost everything with it ( with the exception of cranks ). Quote
