I just ordered the Abu Garcia Black Max 6'6" MH combo and a Pflueger Trion 35 spinning combo. I want to use both for various techniques and eventually start buying specific rods. My question is if you were starting out with these two what line would you use on each and why? Thanks!

I like braid too, I think it's the most hassle free line. Plus if you have a lot of weeds like I do it makes it a lot easier.

Half a spool of cheap mono on each topped with 50# Power Pro on the caster and 15# PP on the spinner

Bingo....only thing I would add would be to use a leader of whatever diameter the situation demands.  If your throwing cranks use mono leader, jigs fluorocarbon, etc.  Then your braid will last forever.  This is what I do and have been very happy with it.

I'd skip the braid and go with 12# CXX on the caster, and 6 or 8# Invisx on the spinner. I generally only use braid in heavy cover, and I prefer fluoro or a strong copoly.

I wouldnt buy 50lb power pro but thats me. Were catching fish on average that weigh under 5lbs-8lbs. Plus if you put a crank on it, its gonna run shallow. Ive found I personally dont want anything more than 30lb in braid, my crankn rod is rockn 20lb braid, get em deep.

At least they caught it before it got to your door step.

I agree 100%. I called Dicks Sporting Goods this morning, they pulled up the account and tracking number. Said no problem, I will take care of this and you will have a new order number within the next few minutes. We will resend you the package today. By the time I got back to my desk at work I had the email. That is CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! They haven't even gotten the original package from UPS yet!!!

That is kind of up to you with what you are comfortable with.  I am comfortable with reeling the leader knot up into my rod tips, but some guys say that is a big no no because you can damage the guides with the knot.  I have not found that to be the case and so I like to have a 6-7' leader so that I don't have to re-tie the leader knot very much. You definitely don't want it to be so long that the knot gets into the reels spool or any part of the reel.  I can go all day or even a couple of days without having to change the leader after changing out different baits, lures, cutting off nicked line, etc.  The shortest I go is 1.5-2' because I like the "invisibility" factor of mono, co-poly, etc.  I use the modified albrecht knot to join my lines.  It is a very strong knot and is pretty small when tightened down and will even get through my micro guides with no problems.  Get the app Knot Wars if you can on your smartphone and it can show you how to tie it.
