Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 20, 2014 Super User Posted March 20, 2014 I also have the 6'9" MXF casting rod. It is rated for 3/8-5/8 oz., but I couldn't tell you how light of a lure it will cast. Used it for the first time last year. Don't remember if the topwater lure I kept on it was a 1/2 or 5/8 oz. lure. I did like how it worked the lure, but have to admit that it was also my first year to use walk-the-dog type lures so I am miles from being an expert. If you aren't in a hurry (and the weather cooperates) I will see how light I can go with it this weekend. Quote

Super User lmbfisherman Posted March 20, 2014 Super User Posted March 20, 2014 You think it will still cast those small rapala skitter pops? I realized I made a grammar error, I meant to say it can handle finesse jigs fine. Smallest I've done is 1/4 oz with trailer. The spinning version probably can handle small skitter pops, but can't say if the casting version can. In general you want to stay within the ratings and normally the middle range is the perfect weight. Please also keep in mind that a spinning rod vs casting rod with the same power and action, a spinning rod usually can handle the lower end easier than a casting rod. I really think the best bet for you is the M/F. Just don't fish it in heavy cover, I think you'll be fine...but I strongly suggest you handle one just so you know yourself. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 21, 2014 Super User Posted March 21, 2014 do you remember what lure it was? Rapala X-Rap Xtreme Action X-Walk 9/16 oz. (15g).....XRW-9 Quote
rawjuice Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 WOW!!! Recieved the Fenwick Elite Tech 6'10"MF Casting in the mail yesterday, I pulled it out, inspected it and then just was staring at it and saying WOW! This rod is beautiful and feels absolutely PERFECT! I ordered this with the mind set that, if for some reason i dont like it, ill just return it because I had not idea what this thing was going to feel like or anything in person. Testing the tip and flex, it literally is exactly what im looking for in a rod for what im looking to do! I want to thank everyone that recommended this rod and for the couple of guys i spoke with in private messaging, there was a reason why I was recommended this rod from so many people and now i understand why! Although I still need to put a reel on it and fully test it out, im seeing great results coming my way! Will Post photos as soon as this is fully setup for some eye candy!! Quote

Super User J Francho Posted March 26, 2014 Super User Posted March 26, 2014 I like a short handle for topwater, but that makes a 6-10 more like a 7', which is too tall for me. Something 6' to 6-6 is usually perfect. For wobbly reels, a small piece of electrical tape on each foot solves the issue and preserves the finish, if you plan to resell later. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 26, 2014 Super User Posted March 26, 2014 Glad you like it. Another Fenwick convert? The Aetos is a very nice looking rod as well. Sunlight brings out colors that can't be seen in the house/store. The 6'10" MF is very a versatile rod. I think you will like it even better once you get on the water with it. Quote
rawjuice Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Yea im excited, should be paring it with a revo s mainly getting that cause i have some bass pro money. I do know that the BPS PQ is on sale right now so im still deciding on that. I wish bass pro sold Lews reels cause thats what I really want to try out. In the future who knows, maybe ill be a different rod for topwater around the mid 6 range and change the Fenwick to a spinnerbait or grub or whatever rod haha! Its very nice and glad i got it! Quote
I.rar Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Does the 6'10 m/f casting have enough backbone for super flukes and senkos? Quote
rawjuice Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Does the 6'10 m/f casting have enough backbone for super flukes and senkos? Have not used it yet but I would say yes, it has just the right tip for good casting and seems to have good backbone, but maybe someone that has used it could chime in on this one. Quote
rawjuice Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Just a quick pick for now, will get better ones later and post in the Show Off Your Stuff thread Quote
