Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth For Top Water?

Would the 6'10" M F be a good rod for topwater fishing? Seems to have good reviews, just want to see if anyone has used this rod and how the durability and everything is? Did you like it?

I don't know why not.  It is a versatile rod.  I like mine...........a lot.  Some like a Moderate action for topwater.  Some like a Fast action while others prefer an Extra Fast action.  Different strokes for different folks.

 

The rod is a favorite of mine.  Didn't use it much last year, but that was because I had purchased several rods over the winter, and was trying them out most of the time.  Even so I took it out a few times while trying a different reel on it.

I heard a lot of good, ive just been hesitant because i have not seen the rod in person but like the lifetime warranty a lot

I own this rod too, I can't see why not...  I have so far only used it as a super fluke rod, I really like the feel of the rod but I haven't found a place yet for it in my arsenal.  I will tell you though it is a sensitive rod though and am thinking of maybe using it as my finesse bc rod pair it with one of my size 50 rods...still deciding though.

The blank is good, but the super short, sharply tapered handle causes my hand to cramp and a couple of my shimano reels move around under load because the rear part of the reel foot moves around. If they would fix that issue I would get another, but now it sits in the corner of my room.

I agree with Bootytrain. The blanks are awesome, but the handle and reel seat leave a lot to be desired. I was going to strip mine and add an ecs seat with full Eva grip, but I sold it instead. All of my Daiwas and Shimanos wiggled. Too BSD cause the rods otherwise fish really swell

Yea I definitely dont like the idea that the reel could wobble, hmmm, anything else out there that would be somewhat similar and great for topwater?

My Chronarch 101A moved.  Curado 51E didn't.  Zillion didn't.  Sol didn't.  The handle is short.  Diameter is small, but haven't compared size to my *** Black.  I do know that I have no problem casting the Fenwick with one hand whereas one-hand casts with the *** feel like I am going to lose the rod.

 

I have become a fan of Fenwick rods.  You might consider stepping up to the Aetos for a little more $$$.  Rod is beautiful in bright sun.  I only got to cast it for about an hour or so last weekend.  A friend says they are very sensitive rods.

The only reels I have heard of wobbling or moving are the Shimano reels, if you have one of those then I think maybe I'd check something else. I have put a Quantum Smoke, a Lews Tournament Pro and an Abu Garcia Revo Premier 2nd generation on mine and it holds, in fact the reel seat works extremely well for me, it is why I bought a spinning rod and then procedded to add several casting rods, I have no problem. A lot of folks like theold Fuji ESC reel seats, for me the ECS is horrible for moving baits, the trigger is too wide and after a day of fishing spinnerbaits or lipless cranks, my hand would be swollen between my middle and ring finger, so I prefer what Fenwick is using. I also like the Fuji ACS and the new SK2 reel seats as the triggers aren't as wide as the dinosaur known as the ECS. Bootytrain, would you like to sell your rod? I don't have the 6'10" M-F, I've used it more than enough but I always grabbed a different one but that one and the 6'3" M-MF is another I would love to pick up, if you are selling I would like to buy it.

I see, I really like the design of the rod and small handles dont bother me cause im a 5 7 italian with small hands so it works better for me lol. I like the idea that it can cast tiny lures amazing but not sure if this rod is going to be too parabolic and not getting many hook sets. I usually dont have problems with topwater fish going in weeds but it does happen and the idea that maybe this will cause a problem when it does happen is slowly steering me away. the reel seat doesnt bother me as much because if it really starts a problem, i can call fenwick and try to get a new one under warranty.

You won't have a problem in the weeds, what you hear when guys talk about that is slop, heavy pads, and that sort of issue, for wanting to throw small size skitter pops up to super spook juniors then I can't think of anything that will handle that range so well, like I said, I really don't fish smaller stuff on a casting rod, but I so hate throwing the Rapala Shad Rap on spinning rods that I want to grab this rod for myself, the problem is I also want a new Aetos medium cranking rod and I can't have both unless I come across an amazing deal but have no fear, that rod will work for you.

If you were going to the Aetos, the only one would be the 6'6" M-F. There are a ton of rods available but not many casting rods that can fish the smaller topwaters yet still have the ability to handle larger ones with no trouble in the price range you are looking at, that is why I lean toward that rod. I got 1 Fenwick Elite Tech spinning rod and I was sold immediately, these rods work for me, but like everything else there are personal preferences, some like chocolate and others vanilla and the same thing applies with rods. Good luck with your search, I hope you get the right rod for you.

Well im thinking I may possibly go with the fenwick Elite Tech, just want to hear if anyone has used or knows anything on the Mojo bass topwater rod(6'8"MXF)? Or if *** 6'7" MF is something worth thinking about too? I think those are the 3 im between/

You are correct, i need to get ahold of a couple, Fenwick and denali will be a shot in the dark as i have no place near that has them to hold, I have held a *** 7 1 M that my cousin just got but have not casted it yet as we are covered in snow.

 

I looked at the 6'9"MHF and was wondering if this rod is a bit stronger or less flex than the 610MF but still cast those tiny rapalas?

If you are looking at tiny rapalas, MH is too stiff.

Skitter pops, I should clear the air here that most of my topwater is the chug bugs and spook jr, mostly, just want something that can still cast the skitters, so really i dont need the skitter to cast a mile, as long as it can cast and the chugbug/spook cast a mile, that is my goal, sorry i didnt state this earlier

Can't comment on the casting version, I own the spinning..I will tell you it is a very versatile rod, mainly use it for soft jerkbaits, drop shot, split shot and weightless plastics.  It can't probably handle finesse jigs pretty easily and I've pulled fish out of cover pretty good.  I've caught both my PB (smallmouth and largemouth) with this rod.  Definitely has a bit more backbone than the M/F 6'10" Casting rod. The casting probably would be just as versatile and my rod probably could handle what you want to do.
